Export prices: Vietnam’s export rice prices surged at the end of August–early September 2025 to their highest level in 8 months due to tight supply, but then gradually declined after the Philippines imposed a 60-day suspension on rice imports. By the end of September 2025, Vietnam’s 5% broken rice was quoted at USD440–450/tonne, down from USD455–460/tonne a month earlier.
Supply: Rice supply in the domestic market during September 2025 was generally tight due to the inter-harvest period.
Demand: In the domestic market, exporters were preparing stockpiles to serve the key market of the Philippines, which is expected to reopen imports soon.
In the export market, Vietnam exported 234,032 tonnes of rice in the first half of September 2025, worth USD112.5 million, raising total rice exports from the beginning of the year to September 15, 2025, to 6.6 million tonnes, up 1.5% year-on-year. However, export value fell 17% to USD3.37 billion due to lower global rice prices.
According to preliminary data from Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s rice exports in August 2025 reached 866,943 tonnes, equivalent to USD436.45 million, at an average price of USD503.4/tonne.
