AsemconnectVietnam - In September 2025, domestic rice prices showed a downward trend as supply was limited while demand remained weak. Export rice prices surged at the end of August and early September, but then continuously declined until the end of the month.

Export prices: Vietnam’s export rice prices surged at the end of August–early September 2025 to their highest level in 8 months due to tight supply, but then gradually declined after the Philippines imposed a 60-day suspension on rice imports. By the end of September 2025, Vietnam’s 5% broken rice was quoted at USD440–450/tonne, down from USD455–460/tonne a month earlier.
Supply: Rice supply in the domestic market during September 2025 was generally tight due to the inter-harvest period.Demand: In the domestic market, exporters were preparing stockpiles to serve the key market of the Philippines, which is expected to reopen imports soon.
In the export market, Vietnam exported 234,032 tonnes of rice in the first half of September 2025, worth USD112.5 million, raising total rice exports from the beginning of the year to September 15, 2025, to 6.6 million tonnes, up 1.5% year-on-year. However, export value fell 17% to USD3.37 billion due to lower global rice prices.
According to preliminary data from Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s rice exports in August 2025 reached 866,943 tonnes, equivalent to USD436.45 million, at an average price of USD503.4/tonne. This represented increases of 9.68% in volume and 14.3% in value compared with July 2025, while the average price fell by 4.21%.
· Exports to the Philippines reached 490,078 tonnes (USD237.69 million, USD485/tonne), up 47.4% in volume, 52.1% in value, and 3.2% in price from July 2025.
· Exports to Côte d’Ivoire reached 104,997 tonnes (USD46.43 million, USD442.2/tonne), up 3.85% in volume, 8.48% in value, and 4.46% in price.
· Exports to Ghana reached 75,882 tonnes (USD43.22 million, USD569.6/tonne), down 30.35% in volume, 27.04% in value, but up 4.75% in price.
In January–August 2025, exports totaled over 6.37 million tonnes, worth USD3.26 billion, at an average price of USD511.71/tonne, up 3.64% in volume but down 15.27% in value and 18.24% in price compared with the same period in 2024.
During this period:
· The Philippines remained the largest market (45.9% of volume and 44% of value), with 2.93 million tonnes worth USD1.43 billion (USD490.41/tonne), up 4.19% in volume but down 16.38% in value and 19.74% in price.
· Ghana ranked second with 662,449 tonnes (USD373.3 million, USD563.51/tonne), accounting for 10.4% of volume and 11.4% of value, surging 94.77% in volume and 58.65% in value, but with prices falling 18.55%.
· Côte d’Ivoire was third with 753,753 tonnes (USD349.05 million, USD463.08/tonne), accounting for 11.8% of volume and 10.7% of value, rising 155.68% in volume and 95.54% in value, but with prices down 23.52%.
Notably, exports to Bangladesh surged 26,864% in volume and 16,371% in value, reaching 104,888 tonnes (USD49.86 million). Exports to Senegal also soared, up 7,244% in volume and 3,105% in value, reaching 123,151 tonnes (USD38.5 million).
Exports to Southeast Asia as a whole accounted for 53.1% of total volume and 51.6% of total value, with 3.41 million tonnes (USD1.68 billion), down 23.54% in volume and 38.1% in value compared with the same period in 2024.
Exports to RCEP markets in Jan–Aug 2025 reached nearly 4 million tonnes (USD1.99 billion), down 15.23% in volume and 30.85% in value year-on-year. Exports to CPTPP markets were 457,171 tonnes (USD240.25 million), down 36.98% in volume and 45.75% in value.
