 Monday, September 29,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - PV GAS has grown to become a key enterprise of the Vietnam National Energy Industry Group (Petrovietnam), leading the Vietnamese gas industry to grow strongly, making important contributions to energy security, food security and socio-economic development of the country.

In 35 years of formation and development, PetroVietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS, code GAS - HOSE) has marked a proud journey. From the early days as a young unit, PV GAS has grown to become a key enterprise of the Vietnam National Energy Industry Group (Petrovietnam), leading the Vietnamese gas industry to grow strongly, making important contributions to energy security, food security and socio-economic development of the country.
On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of PV GAS (September 20, 1990 - September 20, 2025), let's look back at the proud milestones in PV GAS's journey of "Lighting up the country", towards a more sustainable and brighter future.
Period 1990 - 2000: Laying the foundation for the Vietnamese gas industry
On September 20, 1990, PV GAS was established on the basis of the Vung Tau Oil and Gas Project Management Board with the initial name of "Gas Company", with the main functions and tasks of collecting, importing, transporting, storing, processing, distributing, trading gas and gas products. This decision demonstrates the strategic vision of our Party and State in exploiting national gas resources in a systematic and comprehensive manner, laying the foundation for the modern gas industry in Vietnam.
On April 26, 1995, Ba Ria Power Plant generated electricity using the first associated gas flow from Bach Ho field into the national grid, opening a new development page for the gas industry.
The completion of construction and putting into operation Dinh Co Gas Processing Plant and PV GAS Liquid Product Storage and Export Port at the end of 1998 was an event of great significance in terms of technology, economy and society. For the first time, LPG and Condensate were produced in Vietnam.
Since May 1999, PV GAS has met most of the domestic LPG demand with good quality and competitive prices, replacing the products that Vietnam had to import from abroad for a long time. This is not only a technical achievement, marking the completion of the gas industry value chain from exploitation to processing, but also helps increase the value of resources, bringing great economic and social benefits.
Period 2001 - 2010: Expanding supply and enhancing stature
In December 2002, the first gas flow from the Nam Con Son basin was brought ashore to supply consumers in the Southeast region, not only promoting the formation and development of large-scale power centers, but also creating momentum for deep processing industries such as petrochemicals and fertilizer production in the Southeast region, contributing significantly to economic growth, creating more jobs and improving the quality of modern living environment in the South of the country.
By November 2003, the first low-pressure gas supply network was completed, bringing natural gas closer to civil and industrial consumers, marking an important step forward for the Vietnamese gas industry, continuing to expand the diverse product and service chain of PV GAS.
In May 2007, the first gas flow from Block PM3 & 46 - Cai Nuoc was brought ashore to supply consumers in the Southwest region.
In July 2007, becoming Vietnam Gas Corporation, operating under the parent company - subsidiary model, marked a big step forward, helping PV GAS strengthen and demonstrate its management capacity, expand its scale of operations and enhance its position in the domestic gas industry.
Period 2011 - 2016: Equitization and enhancing potential
In May 2011, PV GAS became a Joint Stock Company with a charter capital of VND18,950 billion and a successful IPO. One year later, GAS shares were officially listed and traded for the first session on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE).
In August 2015, PV GAS received the first commercial gas flow from Ham Rong - Thai Binh gas field, Block 102-106, supplying industrial consumers in the Northern region, ensuring energy security for the North, opening up many job opportunities for local labor as well as promoting regional economic development.
In December 2015, the first finished gas flow from Dai Hung field was officially brought ashore through the Nam Con Son 2 gas pipeline - Phase 1 and the Bach Ho - Dinh Co pipeline, continuing the successful series of projects directly implemented by Petrovietnam, PV GAS, Vietsovpetro and other units in the industry.
In 2016: PV GAS increased its charter capital to VND19,139 billion, consolidating its financial capacity.
Phase 2018 to present: Promoting gas processing and diversifying supply sources
In May 2018, Ca Mau Gas Processing Plant (GPP Ca Mau) with a processing capacity of 6.2 million m3 of gas/day from PM3-CAA gas source, along with a warehouse system with a capacity of 8,000 tons of LPG, 3,000 m3 of condensate and a product export port system, was inaugurated in Khanh An Industrial Park with 100% investment capital from PV GAS.
GPP Ca Mau supplies the market with about 200,000 tons of LPG and 12,000 tons of condensate each year, considered the final piece to complete the Ca Mau Gas - Power - Fertilizer Industrial Cluster, serving the cause of socio-economic development in the Southwest region.
In October 2019, PV GAS started construction of the Thi Vai LNG Storage Project with a capacity of 1 million tons of LNG/year in phase 1, receiving LNG transport ships with a capacity of up to 85,000 tons, LNG tanks with a capacity of 180,000 m3 and technological equipment designed according to the latest versions of Vietnamese standards and regulations and international standards. For the first time, Vietnam has a power plant using LNG and PV GAS is proud to be selected as the LNG supplier for Nhon Trach 3 and 4 Power Plants - the first energy source appearing in Vietnam. In November 2020, the Nam Con Son 2 (NCS2) project chain came into operation, including: NCS2 Gas Pipeline Project - Phase 2; Sao Vang - Dai Nguyet Gas Pipeline Project; Converting Dinh Co Gas Processing Plant to receive adjusted NCS2 gas source - phase 2; contributing to significantly supplementing the declining gas source in the Southeast region, stabilizing production and economy in this region.
In July 2021, successfully put into operation the floating cold LPG storage in Thai Binh, contributing to stable economic growth for industrial production in the Northern region.
In 2023, completing the investment in construction, inaugurating and putting into operation the LNG 1 MMTPA Thi Vai Warehouse (the first LNG warehouse in Vietnam), along with importing the first LNG shipment to Vietnam, marking PV GAS's name on the global LNG business map. This is also the year PV GAS completed the increase in charter capital to VND22,967 billion, consolidating financial capacity, creating a solid foundation for future development projects.
In 2024, start supplying regasified gas from LNG for electricity production and supplying LNG transported by tanker trucks and trains to industrial customers nationwide. At the same time, in 2024, also complete the increase in charter capital to VND23,427 billion and set a record revenue of nearly VND130 trillion - the highest since its establishment - proving the efficiency of operations and the right development strategy of PV GAS.
2025: Celebrate the 35th anniversary of PV GAS's establishment, entering a new stage of development.
The year 2025 marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment and successful organization of the 11th Party Congress of the Corporation, term 2025 - 2030. With the strategic orientation of developing into one of the leading industries in the economy, gradually reaching out to the international market, ranking high in the ASEAN region and being named among the strong gas brands of Asia, PV GAS confidently steps into the future, with a worthy position as a young and potential representative of the Vietnamese gas industry.
These golden milestones not only mark each step of maturity of PV GAS, but also reflect the management capacity and strategic vision of generations of leaders through each period - those who have known how to seize opportunities, flexibly adapt to all fluctuations of the market, and persistently build a solid development foundation for the future. This is also a testament to the strength of solidarity, sense of responsibility and traditional beauty - humanity of the collective of officers, engineers, and workers of PV GAS, who have been making constant efforts to maintain the pioneering position of the key unit in the Vietnamese energy industry, accompanying the country on the journey of rising up, integration and sustainable development. PV GAS has turned energy dreams into reality, contributing to lighting up the country and creating the future for the country.
