Wheat imports worth over 1.02 billion USD in 8 months of 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to preliminary statistics from the Customs Department, wheat imports in the first 8 months of 2025 reached nearly 3.82 million tonnes, worth of over 1.02 billion USD, with an average price of 267.6 USD/tonne, up by 3% in volume, but down by 0.5% in turnover and down by 3.4% in price compared to the first 8 months of 2024.
In particular, in August of 2025 alone, the import volume reached 555,116 tonnes, equivalent to 148.8 million USD, with an average price of 268 USD/tonne, a sharp increase of 154.4% in volume, up by 145.7% in turnover and down by 3.4% in price compared to July of 2025. Compared to August of 2024, it also increased by 105.8% in volume, increased by 103.2% in turnover but decreased by 1.3% in price.
Australia was the largest market supplying wheat to Vietnam in the first 8 months of 2025, accounting for 27.6% of the total volume and 28.1% of the total wheat import turnover of the whole country, reaching 1.05 million tonnes, equivalent to over 287.25 million USD, the average price was 272.8 USD/tonne, increased by 34.6% in volume, increased by 18.9% in turnover but decreased by 11.7% in price compared to the first 8 months of 2024. In August of 2025 alone, it reached 229,330 tonnes, equivalent to 63.44 million USD, with an average price of 276.6 USD/tonne, a sharp increase of 202% in volume, 200.7% in turnover but a decrease of 0.5% in price compared to July of 2025. Compared to August 2024, it also increased by 404.5% in volume, 345.7% in turnover but decreased by 11.7% in price.
The second largest market was Brazil, in the first 8 months of 2025 reaching 989,002 tonnes, equivalent to 254.41 million USD, price 257.2 USD/tonne, accounting for 25.9% of the total volume and 24.9% of the total wheat import turnover of the country, down by 15.8% in volume, down by 13.2% in turnover but the price increased 3.1% compared to the first 8 months of 2024. In August of 2025 alone, we didn’t import wheat from this market.
The next was the US market in the first 8 months of 2025 with 469,707 tonnes, equivalent to 127.96 million USD, the price was 272.4 USD/tonne, accounting for 12.3% of the total volume and 12.5% of the total wheat import turnover of the whole country, a sharp increase of 81.5% in volume, an increase of 51% in turnover but the price decreased by 16.8% compared to the first 8 months of 2024.
