Pangasius exports may exceed 2 billion USD in 2025
Friday, September 19,2025
AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam's pangasius exports continued to flourish, reaching more than 1.4 billion USD in the first 8 months of 2025, up 10% over the same period last year.
With this result, experts predict that the export turnover in 2025 may exceed 2 billion USD.
According to data from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), Vietnam's pangasius export turnover reached 200 million USD, up by 5% over the same period of 2024. In the first 8 months, the pangasius industry brought in more than 1.4 billion USD, up by 10% over the same period last year. If it can maintain double-digit growth, in 2025, the pangasius industry will certainly bring in more than 2 billion USD.
In the 8 months, frozen pangasius fillets continued to be the main product, reaching more than 1.1 billion USD, up by 11% over the same period of 2024. Other dried and frozen pangasius products brought in 246 million USD, up by 2%. Notably, the group of deeply processed products, although accounting for only a small proportion, grew impressively, reaching 36 million USD, up by 32%.
This is a positive signal, reflecting the quick adaptation of businesses to new consumer trends - preferring convenient, value-added and more diverse products.
Not only that, the August market also recorded remarkable movements.
The exports to China & Hong Kong decreased by 4%, reaching 55 million USD, showing a cautious change in consumer demand in this region. In contrast, markets in the CPTPP bloc, Brazil and ASEAN continued to maintain strong growth momentum.
By the end of August of 2025, pangasius exports to the US reached 234 million USD, up by 3.7% over the same period last year. Despite the modest growth rate, the US was still the most important market due to its high value, strict requirements and global influence.
Similarly, pangasius exports to CPTPP member countries reached 242 million USD, up by 36%. Japan, Canada and Mexico were markets with diverse needs, from frozen fillets to processed products.
The ASEAN market continued to be a "safe belt" for pangasius exports. Thailand imported 52 million USD (up by 31%), the Philippines 26 million USD (up by 31%), while Malaysia and Singapore also maintained stable growth. With the advantage of close geographical proximity, low logistics costs and similar tastes, ASEAN is gradually playing an important role in the strategy of reducing dependence on distant markets.
The exports to the EU reached 120 million USD, up by 6%. Of which, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain were still the main markets.
The uneven growth between markets reflects the repositioning strategy of the Vietnamese pangasius industry. While China and Hong Kong are slowing down, CPTPP, ASEAN and Brazil have become new driving forces; the US and EU continued to be stable pillars.
In particular, the trend of increasing deeply processed products shows that businesses are on the right track in meeting the international consumer market. This is also an important step to help increase export value, instead of focusing only on traditional fillet products.
Thus, after 8 months of 2025, the Vietnamese pangasius industry has demonstrated its ability to adapt and seize opportunities. Diversifying markets, focusing on added value and improving quality standards not only helps overcome current trade challenges, but also opens up prospects for sustainable development, strengthening the position of Vietnamese pangasius in the global seafood supply chain.
