 Sunday, August 31,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - 2024-2025 coffee crop year is about to end with an estimated export value of nearly 8 billion USD, the highest level in history of the industry.

Coffee exports are expected to set a new record
2024-2025 coffee crop year (from October 2024 to September 2025) is entering its final stage with historic milestones. Thanks to favorable prices, stable output and increasingly solid reputation in international market, Vietnam's coffee exports are expected to reach nearly 8 billion USD, the highest level ever.
In an interview with a reporter from Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Trinh Duc Minh, Chairman of the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association, commented that this is "a year of great success" for coffee industry. In just the first 7 months of 2025, Vietnam exported about 1.1 million tonnes, earning nearly 6 billion USD, exceeding total turnover of the whole year of 2024 and increasing by 65.1% over the same period.
“Success is not only due to high prices, but also from efforts to improve quality: Developing specialty coffee, achieving sustainability certification and meeting international standards, helping to raise position of Vietnamese coffee beans, avoiding price pressure and creating sustainable value,” Mr. Minh emphasized.
Chairman of Board of Directors of 2-9 Dak Lak Import-Export Company Limited (Simexco Daklak) Le Duc Huy said that record-breaking turnover was partly due to contracts signed since the end of last year, when world coffee prices were at a historic high due to a shortage of supply. Over the past 10 years, improved production processes have helped quality of Vietnamese Robusta to be superior, being prioritized by global roasters and sold at higher prices than many other countries. Along with that, businesses promote production of specialty coffee, deep processing, contributing to increasing export value.
In addition, according to industry experts, Vietnam's coffee exports in the 2024 - 2025 crop year will reach a record level due to the recovery of demand from major markets such as the EU, the United States, Japan, Korea, China... In addition, businesses are increasingly focusing on investing in processing technology, tracing origin and effectively utilizing FTAs (EVFTA, UKVFTA, CPTPP), contributing to increasing added value and expanding the market.
Need to boost coffee bean exports to the Chinese market
At the 'Conference to promote agricultural, forestry and fishery exports in 2025' organized by Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on the morning of August 12, Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai, Chairman of Cocoa Coffee Association, said that the 2024-2025 crop year has the highest export coffee price ever, at times reaching 5,850 USD/tonne. Europe is still the largest coffee export market, reaching 670,000 tonnes, with a turnover of 3.6 billion USD; the Americas account for about 4.7%; Asia accounts for about 20.7%.
According to Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai, in context of export markets increasing trade barriers and tariffs, this poses many challenges for coffee industry but this is also an opportunity for businesses to be proactive and flexible in their production and business plans and take advantage of every opportunity in the market to boost exports.
According to Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai, Vietnam's coffee bean exports to the Chinese market are not high. Recently, China has licensed 183 Brazilian coffee enterprises to export to this market. Coffee production enterprises are also expanding the Chinese market because this is a potential market. This shows that Vietnamese enterprises need to soon step up access to the Chinese market.
Giving some recommendations to enterprises exporting agricultural, forestry and fishery products in general, and coffee in particular, Mr. Nong Duc Lai, Vietnam's Trade Counselor in China, said that industry associations and Vietnamese localities need to focus on and constantly improve quality of goods, need to understand and comply with regulations of importing country on quality standards, packaging, and traceability.
In addition, investing and applying technology to production, processing, and preservation to increase added value of products. At the same time, promote trade promotion activities deep into interior and localities in the Northern and Northwestern regions of China.
“In addition to diversifying products, it is necessary to pay attention to and focus on designs and packaging. This requires businesses to research and grasp the needs, tastes and trends of the market. At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention and focus on building brands for export products. Building and registering brands must be considered as things that need to be done immediately when entering or even preparing to enter, this market,” said Mr. Nong Duc Lai.
