Vietnam and Malaysia strengthen cooperation in the Halal industry
Saturday, August 16,2025
AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam and Malaysia are actively promoting cooperation in the Halal industry to leverage complementary strengths and tap into the potential of the global Halal economy which is worth trillions of dollars.
According to Mr. Ramlan Osman, Director of the Vietnam Halal Certification Agency (HALCERT), Vietnam has the potential to produce approximately $34 billion worth of Halal-certified goods for export, leveraging its significant advantages in agricultural products such as coffee, rice, seafood, spices, nuts, fruits and vegetables. In 2024, Vietnam's agricultural exports reached $62.4 billion with a trade surplus of $18.6 billion.
Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam, Datuk Tan Yang Thai, emphasized that for Vietnam to effectively penetrate the Halal market, Vietnam needs to thoroughly understand Halal standards and consumer behavior. He suggested that Vietnamese businesses should take advantage of Malaysia's existing Halal infrastructure - from certification systems to raw material sourcing - to simplify production processes and accelerate market entry.
Malaysia also encourages Vietnamese enterprises to source Halal-certified raw materials from Malaysia to more easily meet international standards.
The upcoming MIHAS 2025 International Halal Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur this September is expected to open up extensive cooperation opportunities. Ambassador Tan expressed confidence that Vietnam will soon become a key player in the global Halal supply chain.
