Major commodity groups imported from Japan in first 7 months of 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to preliminary statistics from the Customs Department, the two-way trade relationship between Vietnam and Japan in the first 7 months of 2025 reached over 28.92 billion USD, an increase of 10.2% over the same period of 2024.
In particular, goods imported from Japan into Vietnam reached over 13.77 billion USD in the first 7 months of 2025, an increase of 10% over the first 7 months of 2024.
In July of 2025 alone, the import turnover of goods from Japan increased by 14.1% compared to June of 2025, reaching nearly 2.18 billion USD and an increase of 15.6% compared to July of 2024.
In the opposite direction, goods exports to Japan reached nearly 15.15 billion USD in the first 7 months of 2025, an increase of 10.4% compared to the first 7 months of 2024. Thus, Vietnam's trade deficit with Japan in 7 months reached over 1.37 billion USD, an increase of 13.94% compared to the first 7 months of 2024.
In 2024, two-way trade relations between Vietnam and Japan reached over 46.2 billion USD, an increase of 2.7% compared to 2023. Vietnam's trade surplus with Japan in 2024 reached 3.02 billion USD, an increase of 78%.
The largest group of imported goods from Japan in the first 7 months of 2025 was computers, electronic products and components, reaching 4.49 billion USD, accounting for 32.6% of the total import turnover of all kinds of goods from this market, up by 5.1% compared to the first 7 months of 2024.
The group of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts imported from Japan ranked second in terms of turnover, reaching 2.86 billion USD, accounting for 20.8% of the total turnover, up by 29.2%. The next was the group of iron and Steel of all kinds, reaching 880.89 million USD, accounting for 6.4% of the total turnover, up by 11.4%; iron and steel scraps reached nearly 642.4 million USD, accounting for 4.7%, up by 12.7%.
In general, in the first 7 months of 2025, imports of most types of goods from Japan increased in value compared to the first 7 months of 2024.
