Global coffee market: Fresh frost news in Brazil and a weaker USD strongly supported the coffee market. The decline in the USD has fueled expectations that the US Federal Reserve (Fed) will cut interest rates next month.
At the close of the latest session, Robusta coffee on the London exchange for September 2025 delivery rose USD206/tonne to USD3,933/tonne; November 2025 delivery rose USD171/tonne to USD3,799/tonne.
On the New York exchange, Arabica coffee for September 2025 delivery rose 4.45 cents/lb to 319.6 cents/lb; December 2025 delivery rose 4.35 cents/lb to 312.65 cents/lb.
Both coffee exchanges rebounded strongly after just one day of decline. According to expert Nguyễn Quang Bình, new frost reports in Brazil and a weaker USD have provided strong support to the coffee market.
In the early hours of August 14 in the US, the US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the greenback against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), fell 0.32% to 97.79.
The USD declined for the second consecutive session after US inflation data boosted expectations that the Fed will cut interest rates next month, amid continued pressure from US President Donald Trump calling for rate cuts, contributing to sell-off momentum.
Brazil – the world’s largest coffee producer and exporter – is wrapping up its 2025 coffee harvest. The country’s green coffee exports in July 2025 reached only 161,000 tonnes, down sharply by 20.4% year-on-year. In addition to the US as the biggest customer, other leading importers of Brazilian coffee include Germany, Italy, and Belgium, according to Cecafe.
