Vietnam boosts border trade with Cambodia
Friday, August 22,2025
AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam is accelerating the promotion of border trade with Cambodia, aiming for a bilateral turnover of 20 billion USD by 2030, opening up golden opportunities for businesses thanks to the advantage of the neighboring market, tariff advantages and diverse import demand.
The Minister of Industry and Trade has just issued Decision No. 2163/QD-BCT on the establishment of the Steering Committee for the implementation of the Project "Promoting the development of border trade, exporting goods to the Cambodian market", setting an ambitious target of 20 billion USD in bilateral turnover by 2030. This is not just a simple plan, but also a comprehensive strategy, expected to create a strong push, transform the quality of trade and open up golden opportunities for Vietnamese businesses in this potential neighboring market.
In the context of the regional and global economy facing many fluctuations, strengthening trade relations with Cambodia is of important strategic significance for Vietnam. In 2024, the total bilateral trade turnover reached 10.1 billion USD, up by 17.5% compared to 2023. The growth momentum continued to be maintained in the first quarter of 2025 with two-way turnover reaching 3.2 billion USD, up by 10.2% over the same period last year, of which Vietnam's exports to Cambodia contributed 1.3 billion USD. These impressive figures are a solid foundation for the Ministry of Industry and Trade to confidently set a higher target: reaching 15 billion USD in 2027 and reaching 20 billion USD in 2030, with Vietnam's export proportion accounting for at least 50%.
