Impacts of EVFTA on Vietnam – Netherlands trade

AsemconnectVietnam - The trade between Vietnam and the Netherlands is growing positively, especially since the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) took effect in August if 2020.
The Netherlands has always been one of Vietnam's leading important trading partners in the European region and is considered a gateway for Vietnamese goods to penetrate the EU market.
The 2020-2024 period witnessed strong growth in trade between Vietnam and the Netherlands, with the important role of EVFTA.
According to the data from the International Trade Center (ITC) of the WTO, the total two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and the Netherlands in 2024 reached 14.2 billion USD, a sharp increase of 43% compared to the total trade turnover in 2020, when the EVFTA began to be implemented, which was 8.08 billion USD.
Vietnam's goods exports to the Dutch market have continued to grow strongly, reaching a peak of nearly 12.994 billion USD in 2024, an increase of over 46% compared to the export level of nearly 7 billion USD in 2020. Meanwhile, Vietnam's goods imports from the Netherlands have always remained above 1 billion USD, reaching a peak of 1.4 billion USD in 2023.
Regarding the trade balance, also according to data from the International Trade Center (ITC) of the WTO, from 2020, the time when the EVFTA began to be implemented until the end of 2024, the total two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and the Netherlands has continuously recorded growth. In particular, in 2024, the total trade turnover between Vietnam and the Netherlands increased strongly by 43.1% compared to 2020 and reached over 14.2 billion USD.
In the 2020-2024 period, Vietnam always had a surplus in trade exchange with the Dutch market. In 2024, Vietnam achieved a trade surplus of nearly 11.8 billion USD with the Dutch market, an increase of nearly 50% compared to the trade surplus of over 5.9 billion USD in 2020, the time when EVFTA began to be implemented.
