Monday, August 4,2025
AsemconnectVietnam - Fruit and vegetable exports in the first 7 months of 2025 were estimated to exceed 3.83 billion USD. With many positive signals from the market, the target of 8 billion USD for the whole year is considered completely feasible.
Fruit and vegetable exports are recovering positively
Information from the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association showed that in July of 2025, preliminary fruit and vegetable exports reached 731.362 million USD, down by 9.4% compared to the previous month and up by 32.9% compared to the same period in 2024. In general, in the first 7 months of 2025, fruit and vegetable exports were estimated to reach more than 3.83 billion USD, down by 2.2% compared to the same period last year.
On the other hand, according to preliminary estimates, in July of 2025, Vietnam spent about 234.624 million USD importing fruits and vegetables, up by 9.3% over the previous month and up by 14.1% over the same period last year. In general, in the first 7 months of 2025, the whole industry spent about 1.435 billion USD importing fruits and vegetables, up by 16.9% over the same period last year. In the first 6 months of 2025, among the 10 largest fruit and vegetable export markets of Vietnam, the United States recorded the largest export growth (up by 166%) over the same period last year. The US market share in the total fruit and vegetable export turnover reached 8.42% (higher than the figure of 5% in the same period last year). Meanwhile, China was Vietnam's largest fruit and vegetable export market, accounting for 52.62% of total fruit and vegetable export turnover, down from 65% in the same period last year.
In terms of products, coconut has become a bright spot in Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export activities in the first months of this year thanks to increased demand from markets, pushing up prices. Vietnam's coconut price has increased from 1.21 USD/kg in 2022 to 7.26 USD/kg currently, due to global demand for coconut products such as food, cosmetics and biofuel.
According to the Vietnam Coconut Association, the United States will start importing fresh coconuts from Vietnam in 2023, China will start earlier, followed by Middle Eastern countries increasing purchases.
Many optimistic forecasts for the last months of the year
In the first 6 months of 2025, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable industry will face difficulties due to a decrease in durian exports. However, recent positive signals show that the Vietnamese fruit and vegetable industry can expect a strong breakthrough in the peak season if the obstacles are resolved soon.
Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports are forecast to recover in the second half of 2025. The reasons are, firstly, with the efforts of enterprises to meet new market standards, especially China, and the promotion of market diversification, export turnover is likely to recover in the last months of the year.
Second, resolving technical barriers and new plant quarantine regulations of China will be the key to recovering the export of durian and other fruit and vegetable products to this market. Vietnam is prioritizing the issuance of growing area codes, approving packaging facilities and streamlining inspection procedures.
Third, markets such as the United States, Japan, Korea, the EU and Australia will continue to be the focus for enterprises to boost exports, especially deeply processed products with high added value.
Fourth, increasing deep processing will help reduce dependence on fresh fruit exports and solve post-harvest preservation problems, minimizing risks when the market fluctuates.
Regarding the Chinese market, industry experts say that in the last months of 2025, China's demand for fruits and vegetables will be very large. When quarantine issues are resolved, especially for durian and other tropical fruits, China's fruit and vegetable imports may increase sharply again.
Speaking to reporters from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association Dang Phuc Nguyen said that the recovery trend of the fruit and vegetable industry in July of 2025 was contributed by durian. Standard supply, low cadmium residue rates in key growing areas such as the Central Highlands and the Southeast, along with strict quality control from harvesting to packaging, have helped businesses bring goods back to markets such as China and Thailand.
Also according to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, according to cyclical factors, the demand for imported fruits and vegetables often increases during the festival seasons and Chinese New Year (end of the year and beginning of the following year), creating opportunities for exporters. Notably, China is increasingly interested in processed fruit and vegetable products due to their convenience and added value. This is a trend that exporters need to grasp.
Regarding durian, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Hoang Trung also gave instructions for this item. According to him, this is a fruit that accounts for half of the fruit and vegetable export turnover in 2024. This is an industry that is receiving attention from the whole society, so it is necessary to have a solution soon to regain momentum for development.
With a strong recovery in recent months, building on impressive growth in 2024 (reaching 7.12 billion USD) and increasing demand for high-quality products, many forecasts are optimistic about the possibility of reaching the target of 8 billion USD for the whole year 2025.
