Cashew export prices jumped by nearly 24%

 Thursday, July 24,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam's cashew export prices in the first half of 2025 skyrocketed to 6,805.4 USD/tonne, 23.8% higher than the same period, helping the export turnover reach 2.36 billion USD despite a slight decrease in output.

This development showed that the cashew industry is clearly shifting to a value-added strategy.
In the context of a volatile global market, the Vietnamese cashew industry is witnessing a spectacular boost when the export price of cashews jumped nearly 24% in the first half of 2025, opening up a promising prospect for this key agricultural product.
Specifically, although the export volume of cashews in the first 6 months of 2025 decreased slightly by 2.7% (reaching 346,800 tonnes), that did not prevent the export value from soaring 20.4% over the same period of 2024, reaching an impressive 2.36 billion USD. This remarkable growth is not just a number, but also reflects the average export price reaching 6,805.4 USD/tonne, up by 23.8% compared to the first half of last year. This is a strong signal, showing that the Vietnamese cashew industry is effectively exploiting its value advantage in the context of many shifts in the international market. 2024 was also a record year, when Vietnam exported 730,000 tonnes of cashew nuts, bringing in 4.37 billion USD, up by 20.2% compared to 2023. This surge in value is considered to be the result of many converging factors. One of them is the growing trend of healthy snacking globally, causing consumers to pay more attention to nutritious and healthy nuts. The demand for cashew nuts is forecast to continue to increase, creating a golden opportunity for the Vietnamese cashew industry to make a breakthrough in the 2022 - 2027 period, with an expected global average growth rate of 4.6%.
In terms of markets, China has emerged as a surprising bright spot, recording a growth in cashew nut export value of up to 41.2% in the first 5 months of 2025. Along with China, the United States and the Netherlands continue to be the three largest cashew consuming markets of Vietnam, accounting for 22%, 21.6% and 8.4% of market share, respectively. The EU market, although the third largest export market after the United States and China, has also had good growth in recent years, thanks to the increasing trend of consuming processed products from nuts and grains.
However, the road is not entirely paved with roses. The cashew industry still faces certain challenges. Exports to the US are facing difficulties as importers await clearer tax policies from the Trump administration. At the same time, access to the EU market requires strict compliance with regulations on sustainable production, no pesticide residues and especially no deforestation during the production process. In addition, although the price of raw cashew nuts is on a downward trend, from 1,450 USD/tonne to 1,350 USD/tonne, creating favorable conditions for businesses, some businesses have signed contracts to buy raw materials before the price was high, leading to cost pressure.
However, the cashew industry is still full of expectations. The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has set an export target of 4.5 billion USD for 2025, and to achieve this figure, about 2.2 billion USD needs to be exported in the last 6 months of the year. This is a feasible goal when the demand for cashew nuts often increases sharply during the holiday season and Tet at the end of the year. To realize this, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is actively implementing transparency in product origin, digital data traceability, investment in deep processing and building a national brand for the cashew industry. Promoting the expansion of new markets, especially potential markets with high demand but low market share such as the Middle East (UAE, Saudi Arabia), is also an important direction.
