Cashew exports to China increasing

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam's cashew industry was experiencing an impressive growth period in 2025, with positive export figures recorded in the first half of the year. In particular, China has emerged as a major driving force, creating a strong breakthrough for Vietnamese cashews.

Cashew exports to China are on the rise
The average export price of cashews in the first 6 months of 2025 was estimated at 6,805.4 USD/tonne, up by 23.8% over the same period of 2024.
In the first 6 months of 2025, the total export volume of cashews nationwide was estimated at 346,800 tonnes with a value of up to 2.36 billion USD. Although the volume decreased by 2.7% compared to the same period of 2024, it is noteworthy that the export value increased sharply by 20.4%. This shows that the value of Vietnamese cashew nuts in the international market is increasing significantly.
The average export price of cashew nuts in the first 6 months of 2025 was estimated at 6,805.4 USD/tonne, an increase of 23.8% over the same period of 2024. With this result, the Vietnamese cashew industry is on track to achieve the export target of 4.5 billion USD in 2025, which is considered "within reach".
Regarding the market, China has officially become Vietnam's largest cashew nut import market with a sudden purchase volume in May of 2025. This is the month that recorded the highest amount of cashew nuts exported to this market in the past 3 years.
Specifically, in May of 2025, Vietnam exported 24,620 tonnes of cashew nuts to China, worth of 156.39 million USD. This figure increased by 3.7% in volume and 4.9% in value compared to April of 2025. Compared to the same period of 2024, the increase was even more impressive with an increase of 44.4% in volume and 67% in value.
In the first 5 months of 2025, Vietnam exported 65,790 tonnes of cashew nuts to China, reaching a value of 414.94 million USD. This growth was remarkable, up by 21.7% in volume and up to 41.2% in value compared to the same period of 2024.
The average export price of cashew nuts to China also continued to grow strongly. In the first 5 months of 2025, the average price reached 6,307 USD/tonne, an increase of 16% compared to the same period of 2024. In May of 2025 alone, the average price reached 6,350 USD/tonne, an increase of 1.2% compared to April of 2025 and an increase of 15.7% compared to May of 2024. Notably, the export price of cashew nuts to China is higher than the export price to the United States.
The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) stated that the demand for cashew nuts in China tends to increase. China's population growth, along with the trend of healthy eating and the increasing demand for snacks of the active young generation, have contributed to the increase in demand for nuts, including cashew nuts. Cashew nuts are considered a healthy food, good for health, suitable for a busy lifestyle.
Mr. Vu Thai Son, Chairman of Binh Phuoc Cashew Association and General Director of Long Son Joint Stock Company, also confirmed that Chinese traders have purchased many Vietnamese cashew nuts in recent months due to increased demand. Besides China, many other markets are also growing positively such as the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Japan, the Philippines, and India. In particular, the Middle East and the Netherlands markets are increasing strongly in cashew nut imports.
