Industrial production increased by 9.2% in first 6 months of 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 6 months of 2025, the industrial production index was estimated to increase by 9.2% over the same period last year, the highest increase since 2020.

The processing and manufacturing industry increased by 11.1%
According to the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance), industrial production in the second quarter of 2025 continued to grow positively, the industrial production index is estimated to increase by 10.3% over the same period last year, of which the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 12.3%. In the first 6 months of 2025, the industrial production index was estimated to increase by 9.2% over the same period last year, the highest increase since 2020.
In the first 6 months of 2025, the industrial production index (IIP) was estimated to increase by 9.2% over the same period last year (in the same period of 2024, it increased by 8.0%). Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 11.1% (in the same period of 2024, it increased by 8.9%), contributing 9.1 percentage points to the overall increase; the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 4.5% (in the same period of 2024, it increased by 12.8%), contributing 0.4 percentage points; water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment increased by 11.3% (the figure increased by 6.4% in the same period of 2024), contributing 0.2 percentage points; mining decreased by 3.0% (decreased by 6.0% in the same period of 2024), reducing 0.5 percentage points. The production index of some key secondary industries in the first 6 months of 2025 increased compared to the same period last year: production of motor vehicles increased by 31.5%; production of leather and related products increased by 17.1%; production of rubber and plastic products increased by 17.0%; production of apparel increased by 15.1%; production of other means of transport increased by 14.1%; production of other non-metallic mineral products increased by 13.7%; production of prefabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment) increased by 11.8%; production of beds, cabinets, tables and chairs increased by 11.7%; metal production increased by 11.0%; food processing increased by 10.8%; production of electronic products, computers and optical products increased by 9.8%.
On the contrary, the IIP index of some industries increased slightly or decreased: beverage production increased by 1.9%; electrical equipment production increased by 1.1%; crude oil and natural gas exploitation decreased by 8.2%.
The industrial production index in the first 6 months of 2025 compared to the same period last year increased in 62 localities, with Ba Ria - Vung Tau province alone decreasing by 2.6%. Some localities had a fairly high IIP index due to the processing and manufacturing industry; high increase in electricity production and distribution.
On the contrary, some localities had a low IIP index increase or decreased due to the processing and manufacturing industry; Mining and electricity production and distribution increased slightly or decreased.
Some key industrial products in the first 6 months of 2025 increased compared to the same period last year: automobiles increased by 70.2%; televisions increased by 21.9%; NPK mixed fertilizer increased by 18.9%; LPG increased by 16.9%; casual clothes increased by 14.9%; cement increased by 14.8%; leather shoes and sandals increased by 14.3%; steel bars and angle steel increased by 13.9%; diameter increased by 12.8%. On the contrary, some products decreased compared to the same period last year: gaseous natural gas decreased by 12.3%; synthetic fiber textiles decreased by 4.9%; crude oil decreased by 3.9%.
The consumption index of the entire processing and manufacturing industry in June of 2025 increased by 0.6% compared to the previous month and increased by 10.1% compared to the same period last year. In the first 6 months of 2025, the consumption index of the entire processing and manufacturing industry increased by 9.8% compared to the same period of 2024 (the figure of the same period of 2024 increased by 10.8%). The inventory index of the entire processing and manufacturing industry was estimated to increase by 6.7% as of June 30, 2025 compared to the same period last month and increase by 12.0% compared to the same period last year (the same period last year increased by 9.6%). The average inventory ratio of the entire processing and manufacturing industry in the first 6 months of 2025 was 85.7% (the average in the same period of 2024 was 76.9%).
