Biwase (BWE) invests VND1,150 billion to build a 12MW waste-to-energy plant

 Monday, July 7,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - On the morning of June 26, Binh Duong Water and Environment Corporation (Biwase, code BWE - HoSE) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 12MW waste-to-energy plant.

Attending the inauguration ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet, former Politburo member, former President; General Le Hong Anh, former Politburo member, former Standing member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat; Mr. Nguyen Van Loi, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Binh Duong province; Mr. Nguyen Van Loc, member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Binh Duong province; leaders of ministries, departments, and branches; leaders of other provinces and cities, along with leaders and former leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Duong province, departments, and branches of Binh Duong province.
After the success of the first 5MW waste-to-energy plant project officially put into operation on January 12, 2024, Biwase has made a strong mark on the journey of turning waste into useful clean energy. The 5MW waste-to-energy plant, from the design, construction, execution to the selection, procurement, and installation of equipment - all were directly undertaken and implemented by Biwase's technical staff. Up to now, after more than 18 months since its inauguration, the first waste-to-energy plant has been successfully operated as expected, with many indicators of equipment safety, environment, power generation efficiency, and ash treatment meeting the expected requirements. With the efficiency of the first 5MW waste-to-energy plant project, along with the experience of successfully operating the plant, Biwase has prepared and contacted suppliers of equipment, technology, and new, superior solutions - an important foundation to prepare for investing in a larger waste-to-energy plant, from 200 tons/day to 500 tons/day, equivalent to a power generation capacity of 12MW.
After more than 6 months of research, selection, and negotiation with many partners, by December 2024, Biwase had selected 3 main equipment suppliers for the project, including the Power Turbine Unit category provided by SIEMENS (Germany); the Waste Incinerator category provided by CNIM MARTIN (France - India); and the Boiler category provided by ISGEC (India).
It is worth noting that, like the first 5MW waste-to-energy plant project, the 12MW waste-to-energy plant, the design, architectural completion, construction, installation of all equipment, mechanics, and operation will be carried out by Biwase's engineering team.
In particular, the equipment is expected to be delivered to the construction site from July 2025 to March 2026 and is expected to be completed in 2 years 2025-2026, the project with a total investment of USD45 million, equivalent to about VND1,150 billion, processes 500 tons of waste/day and generates 12MW of electricity, is the first phase of the 24MW capacity project.
“With the latest updated technology, the amount of ash and slag after combustion is controlled to no more than 12%, significantly lower than the 16-17% of existing factories in Vietnam,” Mr. Tran Chien Cong, General Director of Biwase revealed at the ceremony about the new technology at the factory.
In addition, the groundbreaking of this 12 MW waste-to-energy plant also shows Biwase's efforts in optimizing machinery and equipment, designing the waste-to-energy plant in Binh Duong, minimizing environmental impacts, ash and slag are recycled into non-landfill construction materials, in accordance with the circular economic model encouraged by the Prime Minister.
“With the extensive experience of the equipment suppliers selected by BIWASE and learning from the successful practical results, our Company hopes that this 500-ton-per-day waste-to-energy plant, equivalent to 12MW, will contribute to the success of self-sufficiency in waste-to-energy technology, burning waste to generate electricity with high efficiency from the lowest ash and slag efficiency in Vietnam”, Mr. Cong further emphasized.
As a management agency, Mr. Nguyen Van Loc, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Binh Duong province, highly appreciated the efforts of environmental enterprises in Binh Duong province, especially Biwase - a pioneer with many projects of practical significance in the field of clean water and environment.
The 12MW waste-to-energy plant project was launched as a testament to the spirit of proactive innovation, implementation capacity and vision for sustainable development. The project uses modern technological equipment, provided by experienced international partners such as CNIM MARTIN, ISGEC, SIEMENS, and is directly designed, installed and operated by Biwase's technical staff. With a processing capacity of 500 tons of waste/day and an electricity output of 12MW, the project not only helps reduce pressure on urban environmental infrastructure but also provides green energy and contributes to the realization of Binh Duong province's green growth strategy.
“We especially appreciate Biwase’s proactive spirit of mastering technology, and the reduction of ash and slag after combustion to below 12% is an indicator of operational efficiency and the level of completion in choosing technological solutions. This is a very encouraging step forward, contributing to affirming the internal capacity in the field of environment - renewable energy in the locality”, the Chairman of the People's Council of Binh Duong province further emphasized.
It is known that at the Binh Duong Waste Treatment Complex, Biwase has invested in building a circular factory, from producing organic fertilizer (Biwase Elephant organic fertilizer product), burning waste into electricity, ash in the waste burning process is recycled to produce bricks (Biwase - Binh Duong Elephant brick product).
