Petroleum imports reached more than 3.9 million tonnes in first 5 months of 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 5 months of 2025, the amount of imported petroleum reached 3,964,747 tonnes, worth of 2.6 billion USD.
According to the preliminary statistics figure from the Customs, petroleum imports to Vietnam in May of 2025 decreased by 14.3% in volume and 16.8% in value compared to the previous month, reaching 758,849 tonnes, worth of 480.4 million USD.
In general, in the first 5 months of 2025, the amount of imported petroleum reached 3,964,747 tonnes, worth of 2.6 billion USD.
Vietnam imported the most petroleum from Singapore in the first 5 months of 2025, accounting for 40-41% of the total import volume and turnover, reaching 1,594,820 tonnes, worth of 1.1 billion USD, up by 44.4% in volume and 18.1% in turnover compared to the same period of 2024. In May of 2025 alone, the country’s imports of petroleum from Singapore decreased by 62.2% in volume and 63.6% in turnover compared to April of 2025, reaching 185,224 tonnes, worth of 118 million USD. The next was the South Korean market, accounting for 24-26% of the total import volume and turnover in the first 5 months of 2025, reaching 1,032,982 tonnes, worth of 673.09 million USD, down by 26.7% in volume and down by 38.8% in turnover. In May of 2025 alone, the imports of petroleum from South Korea reached 211,045 tonnes, worth of 127.9 million USD, up by 35% in volume and by 34% in value.
The imports of petroleum from China accounted for 14-15% of the total volume and total turnover in the first 5 months of 2025, reaching 590,361 tonnes, worth of 417.5 million USD, up by 19.4% in volume and by 0.6% in value. In May of 2025 alone, the imports reached 135,210 tonnes, worth of 90.7 million USD, up by 51.8% in volume and by 42.9% in value.
The following was the Malaysian market. In the first 5 months of 2025, the country’s imports of petroleum from Malaysia accounted for 12-13% of the total import volume and turnover, down by 62.2% in volume and down by 70.6% in turnover, reaching 534,543 tonnes, worth of 337.9 million USD. In May of 2025 alone, the imports from this market increased by 64.5% in volume and up by 68.27% in turnover. The next was the Thai market. In the first 5 months of 2025 the country’s imports of petroleum from Thailand accounted for 1-2% of the total import volume and turnover, down by 40.6% in volume and down by 49.2% in turnover, reaching 75,022 tonnes, worth of 54.6 million USD. In May of 2025 alone, the imports of petroleum from Thailand reached 20,847 tonnes, worth of 14.1 million USD, up by 90.1% in volume and up by 82.1% in value.
