Fertilizer imports continued to increase in first 5 months of 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 5 months of 2025, fertilizer imports reached 2.38 million tonnes, worth of over 749.49 million USD, up by 12% in volume, up by 9.91% in value compared to the first 5 months of 2024.
According to the preliminary data from the Customs Department, in May of 2025, Vietnam imported 550,309 tonnes of fertilizer, worth of 173.9 million USD, with an average price of 316 USD/tonne, up by 10.5% in volume, up by 9.64% in value but down by 0.74% in price compared to April of 2025. Compared to May of 2024, it also increased by 3.47% in volume, but down by 1.55% in value and down by 4.85% in price.
In the first 5 months of 2025, fertilizer imports reached nearly 2.38 million tonnes, worth of over 749.49 million USD, with an average price of 315.4 USD/tonne, up by 12% in volume, up by 9.9% in turnover but down by 1.87% in price compared to the first 5 months of 2024.
Vietnam's fertilizer imports are mostly from the Chinese market, accounting for 42.3% in volume and 34.3% in turnover of the country's total fertilizer imports, reaching 1.01 million tonnes, worth of 256.89 million USD, with an average price of 255.5 USD/tonne; increased by 19% in volume, increased by 11.5% in turnover but decreased by 6.3% in price compared to the first 5 months of 2024.
Ranking second was the Russian market with 349,725 tonnes, worth of 169.29 million USD, the average price was 484 USD/tonne; increased by 4.2% in volume, increased by 11.2% in turnover and increased by 6.7% in price. The next was the Lao market with 197,499 tonnes, worth of 54.42 million USD, the average price was 275.5 USD/tonne; increased by 39.2% in volume, increased by 44.7% in turnover and increased by 3.9% in price.
Notably, fertilizer imports from Malaysia continued to increase sharply compared to the same period last year, up by 86.5% in volume, up by 98.6% in value, reaching 58,367 tonnes, worth of 22.03 million USD. Fertilizer imports from the RCEP FTA market in the first 5 months of 2025 reached 1.57 million tonnes, worth of 402.34 million USD, up by 21.8% in volume, up by 16.9% in value compared to the first 5 months of 2024. Fertilizer imports from the CPTPP FTA market reached 271,930 tonnes, worth of 56.34 million USD, down by 2.3% in volume, but up by 0.5% in value. Fertilizer imports from the Southeast Asian market reached 321,422 tonnes, worth of 94.5 million USD, up by 46.8% in volume and 40% in value over the same period of 2024.
