Currently, Vietnam is Canada's leading trading partner in ASEAN and Canada's 6th largest trading partner in the group of 40 Indo-Pacific countries.
It can be affirmed that the opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to expand exports to the Canadian market is very large. However, the limitation is that Vietnamese enterprises do not have much information about the market, consumer tastes as well as preferential export policies and trade defense measures of Canada.
According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, the export turnover of Vietnamese goods to Canada in the first 5 months of 2025 reached 2.7 billion USD, an increase of 8.8% over the same period last year.
The leading export item to Canada was textiles and garments, reaching 458.3 million USD, up by 4.3%, accounting for 16.7% of the export proportion; followed by computers, electronic products and components with 333.7 million, up by 13%, accounting for 12.1% of the export proportion.
In 2024, the country’s exports of goods to Canada reached more than 6.37 billion USD, up by 13.4% over the previous year. In 2024, the item with the largest export turnover to the Canadian market was textiles and garments, with a value of 1.2 billion USD, up by 10.4%, accounting for 19% of the export proportion.
