 Friday, June 13,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - Lychee crop only lasts 2 months, trade promotion activities for both domestic and export markets have been implemented early, helping to widen outlet for lychees.

Exporting to the most demanding markets
3.7 tonnes of lychees in the 2025 crop were purchased from communes in Luc Ngan district (Bac Giang), which have met GlobalG.A.P standards on growing area management and food safety, landed at a Japanese airport on May 29.
The batch of Vietnamese lychees was imported into Japan by Senkyu Joint Stock Company (Tokyo), then delivered to supermarkets, specialty stores and the Vietnamese community in Japan. A representative of Senkyu Joint Stock Company said that the product will officially be on shelves from today (May 30), and committed to expanding the distribution channel to meet the consumption demand throughout the season.
Exporting lychees to the Japanese market requires fumigation with Methyl Bromide at a minimum dose of 32g/m³ for 2 hours at facilities approved by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) and the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), under bilateral supervision. Previously, 3 lychee processing systems of Vietnamese enterprises were inspected and evaluated by Japanese experts to meet preservation standards, ready for export.
Ameii Vietnam Joint Stock Company has signed a contract to export over 1,000 tons of Thanh Ha lychee (Hai Duong) with many foreign partners. Talking to reporters of the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Khac Tien - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ameii Vietnam Joint Stock Company - said that in addition to the traditional market of Japan, the company has also expanded its exports to the US, EU, France and some countries in the Middle East. Today (May 30), the company exported the first batch of lychee of this year's crop to Japan.
To meet strict requirements of international markets, Ameii Vietnam Joint Stock Company has invested in upgrading processing technology and comprehensive quality control. All production processes are standardized to strictly control pesticide residues and ensure food safety.
“The entire process of care, harvesting, processing and packaging must be strictly ensured. Lychees are cut off the stems according to regulations. The fruit must be uniform, free of pests and diseases, and have the required ripeness and sweetness. The enterprise will closely coordinate with the cooperative in monitoring the cultivation process and testing quality samples 7-8 days before each harvest,” said Mr. Tien. Regarding exports, although fresh lychees from Vietnam have been exported to more than 20 countries around the world, the Chinese market is still a key market, accounting for 90% of export output.
At the direct meeting between Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy and Ms. Ton Mai Quan - Director General of the General Administration of Customs of China held on May 28, the two sides agreed to promote cooperation in the field of agricultural trade and market opening in the coming time with new mechanisms such as establishing a "green agricultural channel" mechanism, prioritizing fast customs clearance at border gates for fresh fruit products during the peak harvest season, especially lychees; increasing working hours at border gates during the season (including weekends and after office hours).
On supermarket shelves across the South and North
Regarding the lychee consumption plan, it is expected that about 60% of the output will be consumed domestically. The main domestic consumption channels are still wholesale markets in major cities, corporations with widespread retail systems.
Mr. Jose Mestre - Commercial Director of Fresh Food Industry of Central Retail Vietnam Group - said that the company will promote the strongest consumption of lychee in 2025 on all sales channels, both direct and online. Accordingly, Central Retail will reserve the best locations in the GO!, Tops Market and mini Go! supermarket systems to display eye-catching lychees, and at the same time apply a series of especially attractive shopping stimulus policies.
It is expected that in the 2025 lychee season, the GO!, Tops Market and mini go! supermarket systems of Central Retail nationwide will consume about 1,000 tons of lychee, double that of last year. Meanwhile, the Saigon Co.op system also aims to consume over 500 tons of lychee, an increase of more than 20% compared to the previous year.
According to the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, in 2025, the national lychee output is estimated to reach 303,000 tons, an increase of 30% compared to the previous year. Talking to reporters of the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Huynh Tan Dat - Director of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) said that quarantine units and food safety testing laboratories have plans and are ready to move equipment, send staff to quarantine and collect samples right in the locality to facilitate export. It is expected that quarantine officers will work in the locality from June 1 until the end of the lychee harvest season.
Localities with large output such as Bac Giang and Hai Duong have issued trade promotion plans with many diverse activities to promote the consumption of fresh lychee products.
Speaking to reporters from Cong Thuong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Thiet - Director of Phuc Hoa Early Lychee Production and Consumption Cooperative (Tan Yen District, Bac Giang) said that the cooperative has received orders from export enterprises to markets such as China, Japan, and the EU. Early-ripening lychees are sold in the garden at VND40,000/year, 15-20% higher than the average of previous years.
