AsemconnectVietnam - According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in the first 5 months of 2025, Vietnam exported a total of 4.5 million tonnes of rice. The total value of rice export turnover in this period reached 2.34 billion USD.

Bangladesh became a bright spot in Vietnam's rice export picture, with a sudden increase of 515.6 times compared to the same period last year.
Compared to the same period in 2024, rice export volume increased by 12.2%, but the value decreased by 8.9%. This led to the average export price of rice in the first 5 months of 2025 being estimated at 516.4 USD/tonne, down by 18.7% compared to the same period last year.
In May off 2025 alone, rice export volume was estimated to reach 1.1 million tonnes with a value of 573.1 million USD.
In terms of consumption markets, the Philippines continued to be the largest market for Vietnamese rice, accounting for 41.4% of the market share. Ivory Coast and China were the next two largest markets, with market shares of 11.9% and 10.3%, respectively. Compared to the same period last year (up to the end of the first 4 months of 2025), the value of rice exports to some major markets has fluctuated significantly, such as to the Philippines market decreased by 21.8%; to Ivory Coast increased by 2.7 times; and to China increased sharply by 83.7%.
In the group of 15 largest export markets, rice export value recorded the strongest increase in the Bangladesh market with a skyrocketing increase of 515.6 times. In contrast, the Indonesian market decreased the most with a decrease of 97.9%.
Notably, after a period of "quietness", the Chinese market is increasing its imports of Vietnamese rice again. 2024 witnessed a sharp decline in Vietnam's rice exports to China. However, in 2025, this market increased its imports of Vietnamese rice. China mainly imports rice varieties such as ST25 and sticky rice from Vietnam.
