Vietnam animal feed market – May 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - In early 2025, animal feed prices continued the downward trend from the previous year, despite global economic volatility, according to market sources.

Lower input material prices contributed to a decline in finished feed prices. Specifically, the price of finishing feed for pigs (60kg and above) decreased by 7%, while compound feed for broilers fell by 5%.
On the market:
• Feed for piglets (under 15kg): VND16,500–24,000/kg
• Feed for growing pigs (15–30kg): VND11,600–19,000/kg
• Feed for finishing pigs (30kg to market weight): VND10,000–18,000/kg
• Feed for chicks: VND11,800–15,000/kg
• Feed for mature chickens: VND11,800–13,700/kg
• Feed for laying hens: VND10,000–13,500/kg
The price of UP brand feed for barramundi reached VND28,500/kg, and feed under the Cargill brand was priced at VND14,000/kg. Wholesale prices for UP brand feed for white-leg shrimp rose by VND1,750/kg, reaching VND34,500/kg.
Feed ingredients like rice bran and cornmeal experienced fluctuations depending on type and quality.
Supply
According to preliminary data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, imports of animal feed and raw materials in April 2025 reached nearly USD408.36 million, up 11% compared to March 2025 but down 18.1% YoY.
Cumulatively for January–April 2025, total imports of this group amounted to USD1.57 billion, a decrease of 6.9% YoY.
Argentina remained the largest supplier, accounting for 43.5% of total imports in this category, valued at over USD682.78 million (+75.8% YoY). In April alone, imports from Argentina reached USD187.21 million, up 40.3% MoM and 29.2% YoY.
Brazil ranked second with a 14.9% share, totaling over USD233.9 million (+1.2% YoY). However, in April, imports from Brazil fell by 19.2% MoM to USD52.15 million, though this was still 46.2% higher than April 2024.
The US followed, with April imports rising 4.6% MoM to USD58.52 million, but falling sharply by 57.3% YoY. For the first four months, US imports dropped 46.6% YoY to USD227.06 million, making up 14.5% of total import value.
Corn
Corn imports in the first four months of 2025 totaled over 3 million tonnes, valued at approximately USD775.17 million, with an average price of USD258.2/tonne—down 12.8% in volume and 11% in value, but up 2% in price YoY.
In April alone, Vietnam imported 872,052 tonnes, worth USD228.3 million, with an average price of USD261.8/tonne—up 34% in volume and 31.8% in value MoM, but down 1.5% in price. Compared to April 2024, volume was up 31.8%, value up 36%, and price up 3.1%.
• Argentina was the largest supplier, providing 1.21 million tonnes worth USD312.73 million (40.2% of volume, 40.3% of value). This represented a 7.1% drop in volume and 1.2% in value, but a 6.3% increase in price YoY.
• Brazil ranked second, with over 1 million tonnes valued at USD250.17 million (33.4% of volume, 32.3% of value), down 32.5% in volume, 34.5% in value, and 2.9% in price YoY.
• Laos supplied 42,051 tonnes worth USD9.46 million (average price USD225/tonne), down 43.2% in volume, 49% in value, and 10.3% in price YoY.
Soybean
Soybean imports in the first four months of 2025 reached 703,374 tonnes, valued at USD318.07 million, with an average price of USD452.1/tonne—a YoY drop of 7.8% in volume, 22% in value, and 15.4% in price.
In April alone:
• Imports reached 126,786 tonnes, worth USD56.25 million at USD443.7/tonne, down 41.9% in both volume and value MoM, but price edged up 0.06%.
• Compared to April 2024, imports were down 43.1% in volume, 49.5% in value, and 11.2% in price.
• The US remained the top supplier, providing 414,134 tonnes worth USD186.89 million (58.9% share). This marked a 46.9% rise in volume and 19.4% in value, despite an 18.7% drop in price YoY.
• Brazil supplied 200,658 tonnes worth USD88.45 million (average USD440.8/tonne), down 51.2% in volume, 58% in value, and 14% in price YoY.
• Canada shipped 58,471 tonnes, worth USD29.32 million (average USD501.4/tonne), up 71.7% in volume and 37.7% in value, though price fell by 19.8% YoY.
Wheat
Wheat imports for January–April 2025 reached 2.41 million tonnes, valued at USD637.93 million, with an average price of USD265.3/tonne—up 4.6% in volume, but down 0.07% in value and 4.5% in price YoY.
In April alone:
• Imports reached 776,762 tonnes, worth USD207.69 million, at an average of USD267.4/tonne—up 54.3% in volume, 56.5% in value, and 1.5% in price MoM.
• Compared to April 2024, volume dropped 3.9%, value 6%, and price 2.2%.
• Brazil was the top supplier with 989,002 tonnes worth USD254.41 million (41.1% of volume and 39.9% of value), showing increases of 4.5% in volume, 7.3% in value, and 2.7% in price YoY.
• Australia ranked second, supplying 556,275 tonnes worth USD151.51 million (average USD272.4/tonne), up 12.7% in volume, but down 3% in value and 13.9% in price.
• Canada provided 177,819 tonnes worth USD52.77 million at USD296.8/tonne, up 56.6% in volume and 37.8% in value, but price declined by 12%.
Exports
According to Vietnam Customs, exports of animal feed and feed ingredients in April 2025 rose 10.3% MoM and 36% YoY to over USD121.39 million.
For the first four months of 2025, total exports reached USD388.11 million, a 24.6% increase YoY.
• China remained the largest export market with USD176.83 million (45.6% share), up 46.5% YoY. April exports to China were USD60.42 million, up 6.4% MoM and 47.9% YoY.
• Cambodia ranked second with USD48.18 million (12.4% share), up 25.5% YoY. In April alone, exports reached USD14.3 million, up 23.7% MoM and 80.6% YoY.
• Malaysia: April exports increased 6.2% MoM and 17.9% YoY to USD8.61 million. However, cumulative exports to Malaysia for the four months decreased by 1.7% YoY to USD33.2 million (8.6% share).
• United States: April exports rose 21.5% MoM to USD10.15 million, but fell 7.6% YoY. For the four-month period, exports to the US dropped 18.9% YoY to USD31.32 million (8.1% share).
