Vietnam's wheat import markets in first four months of 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam imported nearly 2.41 million tonnes of wheat of all types in the first four months of 2025, with a value exceeding US$637.93 million. The average price was US$265.3 per tonne.

Compared to the same period of 2024, this represents a 4.6% increase in volume but a 0.07% decrease in value and a 4.5% decrease in price.
April of 2025 snapshot
In April 2025 alone, the imports of wheat reached 776,762 tonnes, equivalent to US$207.69 million, at an average price of US$267.4 per tonne. This shows a strong increase of 54.3% in volume, 56.5% in value, and 1.5% in price compared to March of 2025. However, when compared to April of 2024, there was a 3.9% decrease in volume, a 6% decrease in value, and a 2.2% decrease in price.
Key wheat suppliers
Brazil emerged as the largest supplier of wheat to Vietnam in the first four months of 2025, accounting for 41.1% of the total volume and 39.9% of the total value of the country's wheat imports. Vietnam imported 989,002 tonnes from Brazil, valued at nearly US$254.41 million, with an average price of US$257.2 per tonne. Compared to the first four months of 2024, the imports of wheat from Brazil increased across the board by 4.5% in volume, 7.3% in value, and 2.7% in price.
In April of 2025, the imports of wheat from Brazil were 155,995 tonnes, equivalent to US$40.29 million, at a price of US$258.3 per tonne. This represents a 46.2% decrease in both volume and value compared to March of 2025, though the price slightly increased by 0.6%. Compared to April of 2024, the imports from Brazil in April of 2025 saw a 51.3% decrease in volume and a 48.7% decrease in value, but the price increased by 5.3%.
Australia was the second largest market, supplying 556,275 tonnes in the first four months of 2025, equivalent to US$151.51 million, at a price of US$272.4 per tonne. Australia accounted for 23.1% of the total volume and 23.8% of the total value of Vietnam's wheat imports. This marks a 12.7% increase in volume compared to the first four months of 2024, but a 3% decrease in value and a 13.9% decrease in price.
The imports of wheat from Canada in the first four months of 2025 reached 177,819 tonnes, valued at US$52.77 million, with an average price of US$296.8 per tonne. Canada represented 7.4% of the total volume and 8.3% of the total value of Vietnam's wheat imports. These figures show a significant increase of 56.6% in volume and 37.8% in value compared to the first four months of 2024, despite a 12% decrease in price.
