Agricultural, forestry and fishery exports grow steadily

 Friday, May 23,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - Growth of entire agricultural, forestry and fishery sector in the first quarter of 2025 reached 3.74%, the highest in many years, exceeding the target assigned by the Government in quarterly growth scenario.

Information was given at April work conference, implementing key tasks in May and the second quarter of 2025, organized by Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on the morning of May 13.
According to report of Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the added value of the entire agricultural, forestry and fishery sector in the first quarter of 2025 reached 3.74%, the highest in many years and exceeding the target assigned by the Government in the quarterly growth scenario.
Specifically, agriculture increased by 3.53%, forestry increased sharply by 6.67% and fishery increased by 3.98%. Stable growth rate of the three pillars of agriculture, forestry and fishery is a solid premise for achieving the growth target of the second quarter, 6 months and the whole year of 2025.
Along with production growth, export activities continued to break through. The total export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery in the first 4 months of the year reached 21.15 billion USD, up 10.7% over the same period in 2024.
Of which, agricultural products reached 11.6 billion USD (up 11.7%), forestry products 5.56 billion USD (up 11.2%), fishery products 3.09 billion USD (up 13.7%), livestock products 178 million USD (up 16.8%) and production inputs 722 million USD (up 20%). Industry continued to maintain a trade surplus of 5.18 billion USD, although down slightly by 4.1% compared to the same period but still higher than the overall trade surplus of the economy (5.02 billion USD).
In field of public investment, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment allocated 20,786 billion VND to projects. As of May 5, 2025, the disbursement rate reached 16.3%, higher than the national average of 15.56%, demonstrating determination and close direction in implementing this key task.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy informed that the Prime Minister highly appreciated the Agriculture and Environment sector. Cultivation, livestock, and aquaculture all prospered, of which aquaculture recorded outstanding growth. If this growth momentum can be maintained and market obstacles are soon resolved, the export target of 65 billion USD and industry growth of about 4% this year is completely feasible.
Despite many positive results, Minister stated that we cannot be complacent, because the world situation still has many potential risks from trade competition, conflicts of interest, and market fluctuations.
Domestically, two urgent issues have emerged. First, the problems with inspection have caused durian exports, an item that reached 3.2 billion USD in 2024, to show signs of slowing down, currently only reaching 20% of the 2025 plan. In addition, pests and diseases on crops and livestock are evolving complicatedly.
Determined to strive to complete the growth targets and export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery products in 2025, Mr. Do Duc Duy said that tasks of institution building have been accelerated, in which priority is given to completing legal documents serving the implementation of the two-level local government model, ensuring completion before June 30, 2025. The Ministry is also actively implementing plans to implement Resolution 57-NQ/TW on scientific and technological breakthroughs, innovation and national digital transformation, and Resolution 59-NQ/TW on international integration in the new period...
