DAILY: Vietnam’s rice prices stable domestically, export prices rebound strongly
Monday, May 19,2025
AsemconnectVietnam - According to Kinhtedothi, as of May 19, 2025, domestic rice prices in Vietnam remain stable, especially in the Mekong Delta region.
According to updates from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, there have been no significant changes in the prices of fresh paddy or milled rice. For instance, fresh paddy of varieties like Đài Thơm 8 and OM 18 is priced between 6,800 – 7,000 VND/kg, while IR 50404 is around 5,300 – 5,500 VND/kg. Other popular varieties such as OM 380, OM 5451, and Nàng Hoa 9 also show steady pricing.
In terms of milled rice, raw rice of the IR 504 variety is traded between 8,300 – 8,400 VND/kg, OM 380 around 8,000 – 8,100 VND/kg, and OM 18 up to 10,400 VND/kg. Finished rice products such as OM 380 and IR 504 are being sold between 8,800 – 9,700 VND/kg depending on the variety and quality. By-products like broken rice and bran are priced around 7,150 – 9,000 VND/kg.
Retail rice prices remain unchanged across most local markets. Specialty rice such as Nàng Nhen is sold at the highest rate of 28,000 VND/kg, while Jasmine aromatic rice and other common varieties range between 13,000 – 22,000 VND/kg.
Export market: Rebound in prices
On the export front, Vietnam's rice prices have shown signs of recovery and are currently higher than those of major competitors like India and Pakistan. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), as of May 15, 2025, 5% broken rice is priced between 398 – 402 USD/tonne, 25% broken rice at 368 USD/tonne, and 100% broken rice at 321 USD/tonne. This marks the highest price level since April, indicating a strong rebound after a price dip earlier in the year.
Premium rice varieties such as OM 5451 and OM 18 are now being exported at prices ranging from 500 – 530 USD/tonne, while specialty rice like ST25 and organic rice continue to command high prices, between 800 – 1,200 USD/tonne. On average, Vietnam’s rice export price is holding above 500 USD/tonne, equivalent to around 12,000 VND/kg.
The recent increase in export prices is attributed mainly to stronger demand from major importers such as the Philippines, China, African nations, and the Middle East. This demand recovery, driven by supply-demand dynamics, is seen as a positive signal for Vietnam’s rice export sector.
