Vietnam-Malaysia trade exchange reached nearly 4.85 billion USD in 4 months

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics figures from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, the two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Malaysia in the first four months of 2025 reached nearly 4.85 billion USD, a decrease of 6.9% compared to the same period of 2024.

The total imports of goods of Malaysia to Vietnam reached over 3.13 billion USD in the first four months of 2025, down by 3.7% compared to the first four months of 2024. In April of 2025 alone, the import value increased by 3.2% compared to March of 2025, reaching over 884.23 million USD, and increased by 6.7% compared to April of 2024.
Conversely, Vietnam’s exports to Malaysia reached over 1.72 billion USD in the first four months of 2025, an increase of 3.7% compared to the first four months of 2024. Thus, Vietnam's trade deficit with Malaysia in the first four months of this year reached over 1.4 billion USD, a decrease of 25.5% compared to the first four months of 2024.
The two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Malaysia in 2024 reached nearly USD 14.19 billion, an increase of 12% compared to 2023. Of which, the imports from Malaysia reached 9.13 billion USD, and the exports to this market reached 5.06 billion USD. Consequently, the trade deficit with Malaysia in 2024 reached nearly 4.08 billion USD, an increase of 38.5%.
In the first four months of 2025, the group of computers, electronic products and components topped the import value from Malaysia, reaching nearly 1.02 billion USD, accounting for 32.5% of the total import turnover of all kinds of goods from this market, a sharp increase of 60.3% compared to the first four months of 2024.
The group of machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts imported from Malaysia ranked second in turnover, reaching nearly 262.72 million USD, accounting for 8.4% of the total turnover, an increase of 34.4%. This was followed by the group of petroleum products, reaching nearly 229.52 million USD, accounting for 7.3% of the total turnover, a sharp decrease of 75.5%; and common metals reached 202.33 million USD, accounting for 6.5%, an increase of 10.5%.
