Vietnam – New Zealand trade exchange in first 4 months of 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, goods imported from New Zealand to Vietnam reached nearly USD 259.46 million in the first four months of 2025, a sharp increase of 68.6% compared to the same period in 2024.
In April of 2025 alone, the country’s imports of goods from New Zealand reached nearly 67.89 million USD, a slight increase of 1.9% compared to March of 2025 and a rise of 48.7% compared to April of 2024.
Conversely, goods exported to New Zealand reached nearly 223.53 million USD in the first four months of 2025, a decrease of 0.82% compared to the first four months of 2024. Thus, the total two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and New Zealand reached 482.98 million USD, an increase of 27.3% compared to the first four months of 2024. Vietnam experienced a trade deficit of 35.93 million USD with the New Zealand market in the first four months of 2025, whereas in the first four months of 2024, Vietnam had a trade surplus of 71.5 million USD with this market.
In 2024, the total two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and New Zealand reached over 1.29 billion USD, a decrease of 2.9% compared to 2023. Of the figure, Vietnam's exports to New Zealand reached 686.79 million USD, an increase of 5.9%, and imports from this market reached 604 million USD, a decrease of 11.2%. As a result, Vietnam achieved a trade surplus of 82.78 million USD with the New Zealand market in 2024, while in 2023, it experienced a trade deficit of 31.52 million USD with New Zealand.
In the first four months of 2025, the country’s imports of milk and dairy products from New Zealand had the highest turnover, reaching nearly 160.88 million USD, accounting for 62% of the total import turnover of all goods from this market, a sharp increase of 84.2% compared to the first four months of 2024. In April of 2025 alone, the imports from New Zealand reached over 35.29 million USD, a decrease of 13% compared to March of 2025 but an increase of 37.6% compared to April of 2024.
The imports of vegetables and fruits from New Zealand ranked second in turnover, reaching 23.2 million USD, accounting for 8.9% of the total turnover, an increase of 55%. The imports of wood and wood products reached 20.38 million USD, accounting for 7.9% of the total turnover, an increase of 69%.
