Vietnam’s industrial production index increased in April

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the General Statistics Office, in the first four months of 2025, the Industrial Production Index (IIP) of the entire industry increased by 8.4% compared to the same period last year.
Processing and manufacturing industry saw strong growth of 10.8%
The report of the General Statistics Office showed that industrial production in April continued its positive growth trend. The estimated IIP of the entire industry in April increased by 1.4% compared to the previous month and 8.9% compared to the same period last year. Overall, in the first four months of 2025, the IIP of the entire industry increased by 8.4% compared to the same period last year.
Accordingly, the estimated IIP of the entire industry in April of 2025 increased by 1.4% compared to the previous month and 8.9% compared to the same period last year. Specifically, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 10.8% compared to the same period last year; water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities increased by 7.6%; electricity production and distribution increased by 4.6%; while the mining and quarrying sector decreased by 4.2%.
Overall, in the first four months of 2025, the IIP was estimated to have increased by 8.4% compared to the same period last year (the figure of the same period of 2024 increased by 6.3%). Among these, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 10.1% (the figure of the same period of 2024 increased by 6.5%), contributing 8.5 percentage points to the overall increase; the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 5.1% (the figure of the same period of 2024 increased by 13.0%), contributing 0.5 percentage points; the water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities increased by 10.2% (the figure of the same period of 2024 increased by 6.0%), contributing 0.1 percentage points; and the mining and quarrying sector decreased by 4.5% (the figure of the same period of 2024 decreased by 4.1%), reducing the overall increase by 0.7 percentage points.
Notably, the IIP in the first four months of 2025 for some key level II industries increased compared to the same period last year, such as manufacturing of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers increased by 35.1%; manufacturing of leather and related products increased by 16.7%; manufacturing of rubber and plastics products increased by 16.4%; manufacturing of wearing apparel increased by 15.7%; processing and preserving of wood and of products of wood, bamboo, rattan increased by 15.2%; manufacturing of coke, refined petroleum products increased by 14.1%; manufacturing of textiles increased by 10.5%; manufacturing of fabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment) increased by 10.0%; manufacturing of electronic components, computers and optical products increased by 9.8%; manufacturing of food products increased by 9.1%; manufacturing of chemicals and chemical products increased by 6.0%; production and distribution of electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning increased by 5.1%.
Conversely, the IIP of some industries decreased, such as extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas decreased by 10.9%; manufacturing of electrical equipment decreased by 6.2%; manufacturing of beverages decreased by 0.1%.
