Main commodity groups imported from Russia in 3 months of 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the data from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's goods imports from Russia in the first three months of 2025 reached 566.8 million USD, a decrease of 2.2% compared to the same period last year.

The main commodities imported from Russia include coal of all kinds; fertilizers; wheat; raw plastics... among which, the commodity with the largest import value in the first three months of 2025 was coal of all kinds, reaching 206.2 million USD, down by 27.8% year-on-year, accounting for 36.3% of the total import proportion. It was followed by fertilizers of all kinds at 82.6 million USD, accounting for 14.5% of the import proportion.
Some commodities with increased import values in the first three months of 2025 compared to the same period last year include wheat up by 147.5%; pharmaceuticals up by 109.9%; completely built-up (CBU) automobiles of all kinds up by 385.5%; other petroleum products up by 749.4%; chemical products up by 106.4%; and iron and steel of all kinds up by 156.6%.
According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, the trade turnover between the two countries in 2024 reached 4.59 billion USD, an increase of 26.4% compared to 2023. This included 2.34 billion USD in goods exported from Vietnam to Russia, up by 34.5%; and 2.25 billion USD in goods imported by Vietnam from Russia, up by 19%. The imports of many commodities from Russia increased significantly, such as fertilizers reaching 228.6 million USD, up by 73%; wheat 139.3 million USD, up by 149.2%; chemicals 102 million USD, up by 93.5%; and coal 913.2 million USD, up by 7.7%.
Vietnam and the Russian Federation have a complementary commodity structure. Russia needs to import agricultural products, food, textiles, machinery, and equipment from Vietnam. Meanwhile, Vietnam mainly needs to import production inputs from Russia such as coal, fertilizers, chemical products, wheat, meat, and machinery and equipment.
