DAILY: Domestic pepper prices remained unchanged on April 28, 2025

 Monday, April 28,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to Kinhtedothi, domestic pepper prices on April 28, 2025, remained stable at 154,500 - 156,000 VND/kg compared to the previous day. Last week, pepper prices slightly declined in lower-priced areas such as Gia Lai and Dong Nai, while remaining mostly stable elsewhere.

In Dak Lak province: 156,000 VND/kg.
In Dak Nong province: 156,000 VND/kg.
In Gia Lai province: 154,500 VND/kg.
In Dong Nai province: 154,500 VND/kg.
In Ba Ria - Vung Tau province: 155,000 VND/kg.
In Binh Phuoc province: 155,000 VND/kg.
The market has shown a slight downward trend ahead of the April 30th holiday. For the past two weeks, domestic pepper prices have experienced no major fluctuations.
According to VOV, Mr. Ngo Ba Luong – Southern Regional Manager for Son Ha Spice and Flavor Company – warned that improper storage of pepper by farmers (using non-standard bags and tarps) carries a high risk of contamination with Sudan Red residue, a substance classified internationally as an industrial dye and banned from use in food.
As a result, many spice companies are offering farmers warehouse space for consignment and are expediting exports under the old tax regulations to avoid shipment delays for contracts signed in 2024.
The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) reported that the U.S. remains Vietnam’s largest export market for pepper, accounting for around 25% of total export turnover and importing up to 77% of its pepper from Vietnam. However, the pepper industry now faces significant challenges as the U.S. has imposed a 10% import tariff. This has caused some American buyers to temporarily suspend transactions, increasing competitive pressure from Brazilian and Indonesian pepper, which faces lower tariffs.
Enterprises are advised to take full advantage of the 90-day grace period to speed up shipments and to actively expand into European, Asian, and Middle Eastern markets to reduce dependence on the increasingly price- and tariff-sensitive U.S. market.
Market Outlook for This Week:
Experts predict there will be little market movement this week, as it coincides with the five-day holiday around April 30th. However, the market is expected to recover right after the holidays when companies resume stockpiling to take advantage of the 90-day U.S. tariff grace period.
