Global Coffee Market:
At the beginning of the week, the London exchange remains closed for a holiday, with no trading activity. In the most recent trading session, Robusta coffee prices in London for May 2025 delivery fell by USD135 per ton to USD5,253 per ton and July 2025 delivery dropped by USD102 per ton to USD5,277 per ton.
Operating "alone", Arabica prices saw a sharp drop at the beginning of the week. On the New York exchange, Arabica coffee for May 2025 delivery fell by 8.7 cents/pound to 366.8 cents/pound, while July 2025 delivery dropped by 8.05 cents/pound to 354.55 cents/pound.
According to expert Nguyen Quang Binh, amid global uncertainties and retaliatory trade policies between countries, investment capital is flowing into gold due to concerns about global instability.
Despite support from a weakening US dollar and market positions, Arabica coffee still plunged in the first trading session of the week. Pressure from the upcoming harvest season in Brazil and favorable weather conditions for harvesting in that country are weighing on the market.
According to the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA), in the first half of April 2025, the average export price of Robusta coffee reached a record high of USD5,415 per ton.
Statistics show that in the first half of April, Vietnam exported 79,163 tons of green coffee, earning USD437.73 million — an increase of 8.5% in volume and 68.8% in value compared to the same period last year.
Of this, Robusta coffee accounted for the majority, with 72,078 tons exported and a turnover of over USD390.27 million, up 6.5% in volume and 62.3% in value compared to the same period in 2024.
Nestlé Vietnam announced on April 21 that the company will increase its operational capital in the country, with a nearly 1.9 trillion VND (73.4 million USD) investment to expand its Tri An factory in the southern province of Dong Nai – one of the group’s most advanced coffee processing plants worldwide.
With this new capital injection, total investment for 2024-2025 in the plant alone will exceed 4.3 trillion VND. As a result, Nestlé Vietnam’s total accumulated investment in the country will rise to nearly 20.2 trillion VND.
