DAILY: Domestic pepper prices increased on April 18, 2025

 Friday, April 18,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to Kinh tế & Đô thị, domestic pepper prices ranged from 156,500 to 159,000 VND/kg on April 18, 2025.

In Vietnam, the harvest season has ended in several provinces. Initial reports show that the 2025 crop yield has not improved compared to the previous year. Limited supply has led to a smaller volume of pepper available on the market.
In Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces: 159,000 VND/kg.
In Gia Lai: 157,000 VND/kg (500 VND/kg).
In Dong Nai: 156,500 VND/kg.
In Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Phuoc: 157,000 VND/kg.
This morning, prices rose by 500 VND/kg in Gia Lai and remained unchanged in other regions compared to the same time yesterday. The domestic market has seen prices increase for three consecutive days.
Global Market:
At the close of the latest session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed the following prices:
Black pepper:
Lampung (Indonesia): 7,051 USD/ton
Brazil ASTA 570: 6,850 USD/ton
Kuching (Malaysia) ASTA: 9,600 USD/ton
White pepper:
Muntok (Indonesia): 9,634 USD/ton
Malaysia ASTA: 12,100 USD/ton
Vietnamese pepper:
Black pepper 500 g/l: 6,800 USD/ton
Black pepper 550 g/l: 6,900 USD/ton
White pepper: 9,800 USD/ton
Domestically, with harvest season over in some areas and no yield improvement reported, supply remains tight, limiting market availability. Many farmers are holding onto their stock post-harvest instead of selling immediately, hoping prices will continue to rise in the short term. This sentiment, combined with strong purchasing demand from export enterprises, is a key driver behind the recent upward trend in local pepper prices.
Additionally, processing and exporting companies are accelerating their raw material purchases to fulfill contracts scheduled for delivery in April and early May. This period aligns with steady international demand, especially from the Middle East and some European countries. It also coincides with the 90-day temporary suspension of U.S. tariffs, prompting businesses to expedite shipments amid uncertainty over future U.S. trade policy changes.
The U.S. market shows high demand for pepper due to its essential role in the food processing industry, including applications in manufacturing, restaurants, fast-food chains, meat processing, and canned foods.
