Wheat imports increased in first 3 months of 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s wheat imports of all kinds in the first 3 months of 2025 reached nearly 1.63 million tonnes, worth of nearly 430.25 million USD, with an average price of 264.2 USD/tonne, up by 8.1% in volume, up by 2.1% in turnover but down by 5.5% in price compared to the first 3 months of 2024.
In particular, in March of 2025 alone, the import volume reached 503,382 tonnes, equivalent to 132.68 million USD, with an average price of 263.6 USD/tonne, down by over 30% in both volume and turnover and down slightly by 0.02% in price compared to January of 2025. In comparison to March of 2024, it increased by 7.2% in volume, increased by 0.98% in value but decreased by 5.9% in price. Brazil was the largest market supplying wheat to Vietnam in the first 3 months of 2025, accounting for 51.2% of the total volume and 49.8% of the total wheat import turnover of the country, reaching 833,008 tonnes, equivalent to nearly 214.12 million USD, with an average price of 257 USD/tonne, increasing in both volume, value and price compared to the first 3 months of 2024, with increases of 29.6%, 31.8% and 1.7% respectively. The figure of March of 2025 alone reached 289,783 tonnes, equivalent to 74.4 million USD, price 256.7 USD/tonne, down by 13% in both volume and turnover compared to January of 2025 but the price increased slightly by 0.05%. In comparison to March of 2024, it increased by 22.8% in volume, increased by 26% in turnover and price increased by 2.6%.
The second largest market was Australia, in the first 3 months of 2025 reaching 310,752 tonnes, equivalent to 86.45 million USD, priced at 278.2 USD/tonne, accounting for 19.1% of the total volume and 20.1% of the total wheat import turnover of the whole country, up by 8.8% in volume, but down by 5.4% in turnover and price down by 13.1% compared to the first 3 months of 2024.
Wheat imports from the Russian market in the first 3 months of 2025 reached 136,388 tonnes, equivalent to 34.41 million USD, priced at 252.3 USD/tonne, accounting for over 8% of the total volume and total wheat import turnover of the whole country, up sharply by 151% in volume, up by 147.5% in turnover but price down by 1.4% compared to the first 3 months of 2024.
