Corn imports decreased in first 3 months of 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, corn imports of all kinds in the first 3 months of 2025 reached over 2.13 million tonnes, worth of nearly 546.74 million USD, with an average price of 256.6 USD/tonne, down by 23.4% in volume, down by 22.2% in turnover but up by 1.6% in price compared to the first 3 months of 2024.

In particular, in March of 2025 alone, it reached 650,970 tonnes, equivalent to 172.99 million USD, with an average price of 265.7 USD/tonne, up by 36% in volume, up by 39.7% in turnover and up by 2.7% in price compared to February of 2025. In comparison to March of 2024, it decreased by 25.3% in volume, decreased by 19.9% in value but increased by 7.3% in price.
Brazil was the largest market supplying corn to Vietnam in the first 3 months of 2025, accounting for 46% of the total volume and 44.7% of the total corn import turnover of the country, reaching 980,793 tonnes, equivalent to nearly 244.28 million USD, the average price is 249 USD/tonne, decreasing in both volume, value and price compared to the first 3 months of 2024, with a corresponding decrease of 34%, 35.9% and 2.9%. In March of 2025 alone, the figure reached 71,469 tonnes, equivalent to 17.57 million USD, with the price 245.9 USD/tonne, down by 77.3% in volume, down by 78.1% in turnover compared to February of 2025 and the price was down by 3.3%. In comparison to March of 2024, it also decreased by over 77% in both volume and turnover, price also decreased slightly by 0.3%. The second largest market was Argentina, in the first 3 months of 2025 reached 836,047 tonnes, equivalent to 216.83 million USD, priced at 259.4 USD/tonne, accounting for 39.2% of the total volume and 39.7% of the total corn import turnover of the country, up by 14.7% in volume, up by 21.3% in turnover and up by 5.7% in price compared to the first 3 months of 2024. Corn imports from the Lao market in the first 3 months of 2025 reached 36,340 tonnes, equivalent to 8.17 million USD, priced at 224.9 USD/tonne, accounting for 1.7% of the total volume and 1.5% of the total corn import turnover of the country, down by 45% in volume, down by 50.6% in turnover and down by 10.3% in price compared to the first 3 months of 2024.
