DAILY: Pepper prices on April 16, 2025: Widespread increases, approaching 160,000 VND/kg

 Wednesday, April 16,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to Kinhtedothi, on April 16, 2025, domestic pepper prices ranged from 155,500 to 158,000 VND/kg, rising by 1,000 to 1,500 VND/kg from the previous day.

Positive signals from Vietnam's trade negotiations in the U.S. have supported market recovery. Domestically, the pepper harvest is in its final stages.
  • Đắk Lắk: 158,000 VND/kg (+1,000 VND)
  • Đắk Nông: 158,000 VND/kg (+1,500 VND)
  • Gia Lai: 155,500 VND/kg (+1,500 VND)
  • Đồng Nai: 155,500 VND/kg (+1,000 VND)
  • Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu: 156,000 VND/kg (+1,000 VND)
  • Bình Phước: 155,500 VND/kg (+1,500 VND)
The increase follows positive developments from Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Đức Phớc’s working trip to the U.S. During the visit, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Hoàng Trung proposed that the U.S. Department of Agriculture exempt certain essential, non-competing agricultural and seafood products — including pepper — from tariffs.
Harvest Update:
The harvest season is wrapping up, starting from Southeast provinces like Đồng Nai, Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu, and Bình Phước, then moving to the Central Highlands and Central Vietnam. In Đắk Lắk's Cư Kuin district, a key pepper-growing area (approx. 4,649 ha, 13,000 tons/year), farmers like Mr. Phan Văn Hoàng are racing against time to complete the harvest amid unseasonal rains and labor shortages. Due to prolonged cold weather, the harvest is delayed, and wet conditions are affecting pepper quality and drying processes.
International Market Update (IPC Prices):
  • Black pepper:
    • Lampung (Indonesia): 7,064 USD/ton (−0.24%)
    • Brazil ASTA 570: 6,850 USD/ton
    • Kuching (Malaysia) ASTA: 9,600 USD/ton
  • White pepper:
    • Muntok: 9,651 USD/ton (−0.25%)
    • Malaysia ASTA: 12,100 USD/ton

    • Black pepper 550 g/l: 6,800 USD/ton

The International Pepper Community (IPC) has continued to lower Indonesia’s pepper prices since the beginning of the week.
