As of early March 25, the US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the USD against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), increased 0.22%, reaching 104.31. The USD has climbed to its highest level in weeks against the euro and Japanese yen, following reports of stable US business activity in March and indications that former President Donald Trump may take a flexible approach to upcoming tariffs.
Drought Threatens Vietnam’s Coffee Production
The weather situation in the Central Highlands is raising concerns about Vietnam’s upcoming coffee harvest. Although the dry season has just begun, many ponds and lakes in the region have already dried up, leaving hundreds of hectares of crops without sufficient irrigation.
The Central Highlands' dry season brings scorching sun, cracked soil, and depleted water sources. Hundreds of hectares of crops are suffering from water shortages, causing coffee and pepper plants to wither and turn yellow. Farmers are hoping for rain, but the drought continues.
This factor is expected to continue supporting Robusta prices in the near future.
Vietnam exported 309,505 tonnes of coffee, earning approximately 1.72 billion USD in the first two months of this year, increased by over 37% in value but decreased by 22% in volune, according to the Department of Customs.
