AsemconnectVietnam - In 2024, Vietnam was the 14th largest tea supplier to the UK, reaching 994 tonnes, worth 2.01 million USD, an increase of 356% in volume and 143.2% in value over the same period.
Import-Export Department's agricultural, forestry and fishery market newsletter cited statistics from International Trade Center (ITC) saying that in 2024, the UK imported 117,300 tonnes of tea, worth 415.39 million USD, up 18.6% in volume and 21.1% in value compared to 2023. Of which, Kenya, India, Malawi, Switzerland and Rwanda are the 5 largest markets supplying tea to the UK. Volume of tea imported by the UK from these markets all increased compared to 2023.
In 2024, Vietnam was the 14th largest tea supplier to the UK, reaching 994 tonnes, worth 2.01 million USD, up 356% in volume and 143.2% in value compared to 2023. Market share of Vietnamese tea in total tea import volume of the UK accounted for 0.85%, higher than 0.22% level in 2023.
According to statistics, Vietnam's tea exports to the UK increased quite strongly compared to 2023 but only accounted for a small market share in total import of the UK. Therefore, the UK is also a very potential market for Vietnamese tea to have opportunity to expand exports in the coming time.
Black tea, green tea and tea extract products are the categories that the UK imports in 2024. Of which, black tea import reached 110,240 tonnes, worth 338.55 million USD, up 17.6% in volume and 20% in value compared to 2023. The UK imports black tea mainly from Kenya, India, Malawi, Switzerland and Rwanda, amount of black tea imported by the UK from these markets all increased compared to 2023.
The UK's green tea imports in 2024 reached 3,460 tonnes, worth 38.58 million USD, up 43.1% in volume and 17.4% in value compared to 2023. The UK imports green tea mainly from China, India, Japan, Poland and Vietnam. Except for Vietnam, the UK's green tea imports from the remaining markets all increased in 2024.
In 2024, the UK imported 3,590 tonnes of tea essence extracts, worth 38.25 million USD, up 31% in volume and 36% in value compared to 2023. This item is imported mainly from: Germany, Vietnam, Singapore, China and the United States. Except for Singapore and the United States, the UK's imports of tea essence extracts from Germany, Vietnam and China all increased sharply compared to 2023.
