Brazil increased imports of seafood from Vietnam

AsemconnectVietnam - Brazil increased imports of seafood from Vietnam with an increase of 53.8% in volume and 38.6% in value compared to 2023, reaching 50,500 tonnes, worth 136.6 million USD.

Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Newsletter of Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) cited data from the World Trade Center (ITC) saying that in 2024, Brazil imported 291,600 tonnes of seafood, worth 1.57 billion USD, up 8.1% in volume and 10.4% in value compared to 2023.
In 2024, Brazil increased seafood imports from many markets such as Chile, China, Argentina, Ecuador, the United States, etc. Brazil also increased seafood imports from Vietnam with a sharp increase of 53.8% in volume and 38.6% in value compared to 2023, reaching 50,500 tonnes, worth 136.6 million USD.
In 2024, Vietnam was the second largest supplier to Brazilian market, accounting for 17.33% in volume and 8.69% in value of Brazil's total seafood imports. Demand for seafood in the Brazilian market is still on the rise, so Vietnamese seafood will have opportunity to increase exports to this market. According to statistics from Customs Department (Ministry of Finance), in February 2025, Vietnam's seafood exports reached 655.02 million USD, an increase of 44.5% compared to February 2024. In the first 2 months of 2025, Vietnam's seafood exports reached 1.42 billion USD, an increase of 19% compared to the first 2 months of 2024.
Of which, China, Japan and the United States are the 3 largest seafood export markets of Vietnam, accounting for 52.33% of total seafood export turnover in the first 2 months of 2025. Seafood exports to these 3 markets all increased compared to the same period in 2024.
Seafood exports to the next major markets also achieved growth compared to the same period in 2024 such as: Korea, Australia, Thailand, UK, Canada, Germany, Russia, Brazil... In the coming time, Vietnam's seafood exports are forecast to continue to grow thanks to the increasing demand for seafood in many markets.
