Currently, Vietnam is Canada's leading trading partner in ASEAN and Canada's 6th largest trading partner in the group of 40 Indo-Pacific countries.
It can be affirmed that the opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to expand exports to the Canadian market is huge. However, the limitation is that Vietnamese enterprises do not have much information about the market, consumer tastes as well as preferential export policies and trade defense measures of Canada.
According to the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, the export turnover of Vietnamese goods to Canada in the first 2 months of 2025 reached 964.1 million USD, down by 1.3% over the same period last year.
The leading export item to Canada was textiles and garments, reaching 149.5 million USD, down by 11.9%, accounting for 15.5% of the export proportion; followed by the group of phones of all kinds and components reaching 133.7 million, up by 19.9%, accounting for 13.8% of the export proportion.
In 2024, the export turnover reached more than 6.37 billion USD, up by 13.4% over the previous year. In 2024, the item with the largest export turnover to the Canadian market was still textiles and garments, with a value of 1.2 billion USD, up by 10.4%, accounting for 19% of the export proportion.
