Optimistic Outlook for the Pepper Industry
Positive signals from the beginning of the year suggest a promising outlook for the pepper industry. As global pepper production is likely to continue declining while consumption remains stable, Vietnam's pepper sector is facing a "golden opportunity" this year, providing a strong driving force for industry growth.
According to the Vietnam Industry and Trade Information Center (VITIC) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, India continues to hold its position as one of the world’s largest pepper exporters. Major pepper-producing countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, and Brazil are experiencing unfavorable weather conditions, leading to a decline in global pepper production.
Meanwhile, major markets such as the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East continue to ramp up their imports to meet growing consumer and food processing demands. The rising global consumption presents a significant opportunity for Vietnamese pepper exporters.
Vietnam currently has over 110,000 hectares of pepper plantations, with an average yield of 2.6 tons per hectare—twice the global average. By 2030, the industry aims to maintain a cultivation area of 80,000 - 100,000 hectares, with production ranging from 200,000 to 300,000 tons.
