Domestic pepper prices remained stable on March 17, 2025
Monday, March 17,2025
AsemconnectVietnam - According to Kinhtedothi, pepper prices in Vietnam ranged between 157,500 - 159,000 VND/kg on March 17, 2025.
Last week, prices increased for three consecutive days, but a sharp drop at the end of the week caused the market to lose the 160,000 VND/kg threshold. Globally, the International Pepper Community (IPC) reported that only Indonesian black pepper prices declined last week.
Domestic Pepper Market
Current pepper prices in major producing provinces:
• Đắk Lắk: 159,000 VND/kg
• Đắk Nông: 159,000 VND/kg
• Gia Lai: 158,000 VND/kg
• Đồng Nai: 157,500 VND/kg
• Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu: 158,000 VND/kg
• Bình Phước: 158,000 VND/kg
Morning prices remained stable compared to yesterday. However, by the end of last week, domestic pepper prices dropped 1,000 - 3,000 VND/kg.
Market Outlook for This Week
According to experts, increased supply from the ongoing harvest is putting downward pressure on the market. Despite three consecutive days of price increases last week, the significant drop at the week's end pushed prices below 160,000 VND/kg.
On a global scale, the only notable price decline recorded last week was for Indonesian black pepper.
Harvest Progress & Farmer Strategies
• Climate change in 2024 has affected pepper production, but some provinces are experiencing favorable weather conditions.
• Farmers have shifted their selling strategies, opting for a more patient approach, carefully timing their sales to secure better prices.
• Đắk Nông is Vietnam’s largest pepper-producing province, with about 40% of its crop harvested.
• Đắk Lắk, the second-largest producer, has harvested 5 - 10% of its total crop.
Vietnam's Competitive Edge in the Pepper Market
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), 2025 continues to be a positive year for Vietnam’s pepper industry. The global pepper supply is expected to decline, while demand remains steady.
Three key reasons behind Vietnam's strong market position:
1. Advanced processing technology – Vietnamese pepper meets global standards.
2. Stable production levels – ensuring a reliable supply for exporters.
3. High economic value – despite occupying only 15% of the land used for coffee and 12% of the land for rubber, pepper contributes:
o 23% of Vietnam's coffee export value (5.6 billion USD)
o 38% of Vietnam's rubber export value (3.4 billion USD)
With these advantages, Vietnam remains a leading force in the global pepper market.
