Rice market update on March 14: Export prices slightly increased

AsemconnectVietnam - According to Kinh tế & Đô thị, rice export prices have increased by 1-2 USD per tonne on March 14. However, domestic transactions for fresh paddy remain slow, with an adequate supply.

Domestic rice prices
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang Province, the current prices for various types of rice are:
• Raw rice:
o OM 380: 7,900 - 8,000 VND/kg
o IR 504: 8,150 - 8,200 VND/kg
o OM 18: 9,300 - 9,500 VND/kg
o 5451: 8,500 - 8,600 VND/kg
• Finished rice:
o OM 380: 8,800 - 9,000 VND/kg
o IR 504: 9,500 - 9,700 VND/kg
By-products prices
The prices of rice by-products range from 7,300 to 10,000 VND/kg. Specific price updates include:
• Fragrant broken rice: 7,100 - 7,300 VND/kg
• 3-4 broken rice: 6,600 - 6,700 VND/kg
• Rice bran: 8,000 - 10,000 VND/kg
In An Giang, the supply is stable, but buyers are purchasing cautiously, leading to little price fluctuation. In Đồng Tháp, the market is similar, with slow purchasing activity. The Sa Đéc market mainly receives fragrant sticky rice, with stable prices. In An Cư (Cái Bè, Tiền Giang), premium rice sells well at stable prices, but lower-grade rice sees inconsistent pricing with slower transactions.
Retail market prices
Retail rice prices remain unchanged from yesterday. The highest recorded price is for Nàng Nhen rice at 28,000 VND/kg. Other rice varieties include:
• Common rice: 15,000 - 16,000 VND/kg
• Thai fragrant long-grain rice: 20,000 - 22,000 VND/kg
• Hương Lài rice: 22,000 VND/kg
• Jasmine fragrant rice: 18,000 - 20,000 VND/kg
• Nàng Hoa rice: 22,000 VND/kg
• Taiwan fragrant rice: 21,000 VND/kg
• Standard white rice: 17,000 VND/kg
• Sóc regular rice: 18,000 VND/kg
• Sóc Thai rice: 21,000 VND/kg
• Japanese rice: 22,000 VND/kg
Fresh paddy prices
According to the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Environment, fresh paddy prices are as follows:
• OM 18: 6,500 - 6,700 VND/kg
• Đài Thơm 8: 6,500 - 6,700 VND/kg
• OM 380: 5,200 - 5,400 VND/kg
• OM 5451: 5,700 - 5,900 VND/kg
• IR 50404: 5,500 - 5,600 VND/kg
• Japanese paddy: 7,800 - 8,000 VND/kg
• Nàng Hoa 9: 9,200 VND/kg
Market activity remains slow, with steady supplies in several provinces. Long An reports slower transactions, with buyers offering lower prices. In Kiên Giang, farmers are maintaining their price expectations, while buyers are pushing for lower offers. In Đồng Tháp, transactions remain consistent, with stable pricing. An Giang sees a high supply, but trading is slower than the previous day.
In Bạc Liêu, paddy prices remain firm, with ongoing harvests, but traders are buying more cautiously. Sóc Trăng experiences an increase in harvested paddy, causing a slight drop in fragrant paddy prices, while other paddy types remain stable. In Hậu Giang, a large volume of paddy is being harvested, with farmers holding firm on prices and steady trading activity.
Export market prices
Vietnam’s rice export prices increased slightly today compared to midweek. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA):
• 5% broken rice: 392 USD/ton (up 2 USD/ton)
• 25% broken rice: 365 USD/ton (up 1 USD/ton)
• 100% broken rice: 307 USD/ton
These price increases reflect strong global demand amid stable domestic supply.
