After two days of declines earlier this week, domestic pepper prices have rebounded.
According to the Industry and Trade Information Center – Ministry of Industry and Trade (VITIC), the 2025 pepper harvest is currently underway, reaching its peak in March and continuing into April. Global pepper production is expected to continue declining in 2025 due to a reduction in cultivated areas in Vietnam and unfavorable weather conditions in India. India's pepper production may drop by 20-25%, mainly due to adverse weather in Karnataka.
Vietnam's 2024/25 pepper production is forecasted to reach 172,000 tons, a 2% decrease from the previous year and a 47% drop compared to the 322,000 tons recorded in the 2018/19 season. This projection by VITIC is lower than the initial forecast by the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA).
Reports and observations indicate that cultivated areas have declined in many regions, leading to reduced production. However, some pepper farms continue to achieve high yields thanks to scientific cultivation methods and proper care.
At the close of the latest trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed:
• Lampung black pepper (Indonesia) at 7,254 USD/ton, down 0.14%
• Brazil ASTA 570 black pepper at 6,900 USD/ton
