Coffee Market Update (March 12, 2025): Strong price increase

 Wednesday, March 12,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to https://nongnghiep.vn, both domestic and global coffee prices surged today, with Vietnam’s domestic coffee market rising by 1,500 VND/kg to 132,000 - 133,000 VND/kg.

 Global Coffee Prices:
London Robusta (May 2025): +177 USD (+3.29%) → 5,552 USD/ton
London Robusta (July 2025): +171 USD (+3.20%) → 5,513 USD/ton
New York Arabica (May 2025): +9.75 cents (+2.54%) → 393.75 cents/lb
New York Arabica (July 2025): +9.7 cents (+2.59%) → 384.40 cents/lb
Prices surged due to a weaker USD and concerns over drought conditions in Brazil, which could impact production. However, gains were limited by increasing ICE-monitored Arabica and Robusta inventories.
Market Insights:
The U.S. National Coffee Association (NCA) conference highlighted challenges in pricing, logistics, supply chains, and financing.
Low coffee reserves in the U.S. are creating difficulties for roasters, who struggle to pass increased costs onto retailers due to weakened consumer demand.
Brazil’s green coffee exports in February dropped 20.5% YoY due to production and logistics issues.
However, in the first 7 months of the current crop year, Brazil set a record, exporting 30.15 million bags (+11.3% YoY).
Vietnam’s Domestic Coffee Prices (VND/kg):

Vietnam’s domestic coffee market surged by 1,500 VND/kg, reaching 133,000 VND/kg, reflecting strong demand. Global markets also saw sharp increases, driven by Brazilian production concerns and currency fluctuations.
Vietnam exported 284,000 tons of coffee in the first two months of the year, worth $1.58 billion, the Government News has reported, citing data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
The figures represent a year-on-year reduction of 28.4% in volume but an increase of 26.2% in value.
In February alone, local enterprises shipped 150,000 tons of coffee, earning $854.2 million.
The average coffee export price in the two-month period reached $5,574.5 per ton, skyrocketing 76.3% year-on-year. In February, the price hit a new record high of $5,596 per ton.
Germany, Italy and Japan continued to be the three largest importers of Vietnamese coffee, accounting for 16.6%, 9.4%, and 8.2% of the market share, respectively.
Vietnam targets to earn $6 billion from coffee exports this year.
