January 2025, rice exports to Cambodia increased by 100%

AsemconnectVietnam - In January 2025, Vietnam's rice exports to Cambodian market reached more than 2 million USD, hitting an increase of 100%.
According to data from Customs Department (Ministry of Finance), in January 2025, total import-export turnover between Vietnam and Cambodia reached 838.8 million USD, down 1% compared to the same period in 2024. Of which, Vietnam's export turnover to Cambodia reached 420.8 million USD, down 6.3% compared to the same period in 2024. Currently, Vietnam's exports to Cambodia are equivalent to 1.3% of Vietnam's total exports to the world.
On other hand, Vietnam's import turnover from Cambodian market reached 418 million USD, up 5% over the same period in 2024. Vietnam's import from Cambodia were equivalent to 1.4% of Vietnam's total imports in January 2025. Vietnam had a trade surplus of 2.8 million USD with Cambodia. Notably, among export items recording double-digit growth in value, rice recorded the highest growth. Specifically, rice recorded a growth of 100% over the same period last year; followed by coffee with a growth of 81.71%; seafood with a growth of 48.66%; iron and steel products with a growth of 46.89%; clinker and cement with a growth of 43.05%; electric wires and cables with a growth of 35.9%; textile, garment, leather and footwear raw materials increased by 27.79%;…
However, some items recorded a double-digit decline in export growth. Specifically, glass and glass products decreased by 90.02%; furniture products made from materials other than wood decreased by 53.67%; ceramic and porcelain products decreased by 50.3%; plastic products decreased by 31.18%; petroleum products of all kinds decreased by 25.96%; animal feed and raw materials decreased by 24.19%.
Regarding rice, Cambodian Rice Federation said that in January 2025, Cambodia exported 59,086 tonnes of milled rice, earning 48.03 million USD.
According to Cambodia Rice Federation, 39 rice exporters made these exports to 45 markets, of which 23 European countries imported a total of 36,714 tonnes, worth US$29.79 million.
Meanwhile, China, including Hong Kong (China) and Macau (China), imported 3,772 tonnes, worth US$2.56 million. Four ASEAN countries imported 9,413 tonnes, worth US$7.31 million, while 16 other countries, including countries in Africa, the Middle East, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and others imported 9,187 tonnes, worth US$8.37 million.
Of exported rice, fragrant rice accounted for 93.01%, white rice accounted for 2.93%, parboiled rice accounted for 2.31%, organic rice accounted for 1.42% and other types of rice accounted for 0.33%. Notably, total amount of wet rice exported in January 2025 reached 619,489 tonnes, earning more than 139.39 million USD.
