Domestic Rice Market on March 5, 2025: Strong Increase

AsemconnectVietnam - On March 5, 2025, rice prices in the Mekong Delta region experienced slight fluctuations. The market saw stable rice prices with a strong rebound in some types of fresh rice.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang Province, raw OM 380 rice is currently priced at 7,800 - 8,000 VND/kg, OM 18 at 9,300 - 9,500 VND/kg, IR 504 increased to 8,100 - 8,200 VND/kg, and 5451 rice at 8,500 - 8,600 VND/kg. Finished OM 380 rice is at 8,800 - 9,000 VND/kg, while finished IR 504 is at 9,500 - 9,700 VND/kg.
For by-products, the prices range from 5,550 - 7,300 VND/kg. Fragrant broken rice is priced at 7,100 - 7,300 VND/kg, and dry bran is between 5,550 - 5,700 VND/kg.Local Market Updates:
Lap Vo (Dong Thap): Market volume improved, transactions were stable.
Sa Dec (Dong Thap): Moderate trade activity, stable prices for quality rice, and improved transactions.
Sa Dec Market (Dong Thap): Increased supply at ports, steady demand, stable rice prices.
An Cu (Cai Be, Tien Giang): Limited supply, stable prices, slower transactions with a preference for high-quality rice.
At retail markets, rice prices remained unchanged compared to the previous day. Notable prices include:
Nang Nhen rice: 28,000 VND/kg (highest price)
Regular rice: 15,000 - 16,000 VND/kg
Thai fragrant long-grain rice: 20,000 - 22,000 VND/kg
Huong Lai rice: 22,000 VND/kg
Jasmine fragrant rice: 18,000 - 20,000 VND/kg
Nang Hoa rice: 22,000 VND/kg
Taiwanese fragrant rice: 21,000 VND/kg
Standard white rice: 17,000 VND/kg
Regular Soc rice: 18,000 VND/kg
Soc Thai rice: 21,000 VND/kg
Japanese rice: 22,000 VND/kg

According to the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Environment, some fresh rice varieties saw price increases:
OM 5451: Up 100 VND/kg to 5,700 - 5,900 VND/kg
OM 18: Up 200 VND/kg to 6,500 - 6,600 VND/kg
Dai Thom 8: Up 200 VND/kg to 6,500 - 6,600 VND/kg
IR 50404: Stable at 5,500 - 5,600 VND/kg
OM 380: Stable at 5,000 - 5,200 VND/kg
Japanese rice: 7,800 - 8,000 VND/kg
Nang Hoa 9: 9,200 VND/kg
Regional Market Activity:
Kien Giang: Stable rice transactions with slight price fluctuations.
Can Tho: Rice mainly available in Vinh Thanh, mostly fragrant varieties, with slow new demand as previous stock has already been contracted.
An Giang: Stronger demand in Thoai Son, with farmers setting higher prices in some areas. Traders actively seeking IR 50404 rice, boosting market activity.
Dong Thap: Farmers are raising prices for high-quality rice, leading to more active transactions with slight price fluctuations.
Export Market:
Vietnamese rice export prices fell slightly compared to earlier in the week. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), current export prices are:
5% broken rice: $389/tonne (down $1/tonne)
25% broken rice: $364/tonne (down $3/tonne)
100% broken rice: $307/tonne (down $3/tonne)
