DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices rose sharply on March 4, 2025

 Tuesday, March 4,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - On Tuesday, robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area, rose sharply to 156,000 - 159,000 VND per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.

Local pepper prices have reached their highest level in nearly a decade, bringing excitement to farmers at the beginning of the harvest season. Last year, early-season prices ranged between 75,000 - 85,000 VND/kg.
Strong Price Increase Despite Lower Yields
In Đắk Lắk, field reports indicate that although unfavorable weather conditions have reduced productivity, the high pepper prices have provided significant profits for growers. Many farming households have proactively hired labor and made thorough preparations for harvesting to ensure progress and quality.
Last year, early-season pepper prices ranged from 75,000 - 85,000 VND/kg, but now they have exceeded 160,000 VND/kg. At this price level, a one-hectare pepper farm can generate nearly 200 million VND in profit after deducting expenses.
Outlook for Pepper Production
With such high prices, farmers are encouraged to invest more in cultivation, which could lead to improved productivity per hectare in the coming years.
However, experts caution that newly planted areas will take time to produce yields, meaning that major pepper-producing countries like Vietnam may not see a significant recovery in supply in the short term.
Nevertheless, early signs for Vietnam’s 2025 crop are quite positive, with the potential for high yields if weather conditions remain favorable. Farmers hope for both a bountiful harvest and strong prices this season.
