DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices surged sharply on March 3, 2025

 Monday, March 3,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to Kinh tế & Đô thị, domestic pepper prices range from 156,000 to 159,000 VND/kg, marking the highest levels in nearly a decade. Farmers are excited as the harvest season begins with record-high prices.

Domestic Market Overview
• Last year’s early-season prices: 75,000 – 85,000 VND/kg
• This year’s early-season prices: Over 160,000 VND/kg
In Đắk Lắk, despite unfavorable weather conditions leading to lower yields, the sharp increase in pepper prices has brought significant profits to farmers. Many households have hired additional labor and carefully prepared for the harvest to ensure both quality and efficiency.
Farmers’ Perspective
According to Vũ Hồi Siêu, a farmer from Ea Na commune, Krông Ana district, Đắk Lắk, his pepper harvest has been affected by drought during the 2024 dry season, leading to fewer fruits on the vines. However, the nearly doubled price compared to last year has more than compensated for the lower yield.
With the current price levels, a 1-hectare pepper farm can generate nearly 200 million VND in profit after deducting costs.
Future Outlook
• High prices will encourage farmers to invest more in cultivation, potentially increasing yield per hectare in the coming years.
• However, new plantations will take time before they start producing, making it difficult for Vietnam to significantly increase output in the short term.
• If weather conditions remain favorable, the 2025 harvest could see both high yields and high prices, boosting farmers' income and market stability.
Despite challenges, early signals for the 2025 crop in Vietnam are promising, with potential for strong production and profitable prices.
