DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices decreased on February 26, 2025

 Wednesday, February 26,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to Kinhtedothi, pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, fell by 1,000-2,000 VND /kg on Wednesday to 156,000 to 160,000 VND per kg compared to yesterday.

Early-harvest selling pressure is weighing on the market. Although some farmers are selling their pepper at the beginning of the harvest, trading activity remains moderate, with only small transactions taking place.
In Đắk Lắk province, pepper is being purchased at 160,000 VND/kg, down 1,000 VND/kg.
In Đắk Nông province, the price is also 160,000 VND/kg, down 1,000 VND/kg.
In Gia Lai province, the price stands at 157,000 VND/kg, down 2,000 VND/kg.
In Đồng Nai province, pepper is priced at 156,000 VND/kg, down 2,000 VND/kg.
In Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu province, the price is 157,000 VND/kg, down 2,000 VND/kg.
In Bình Phước province, the purchase price is 157,000 VND/kg, down 2,000 VND/kg.
As of this morning, pepper prices have dropped by 1,000 VND/kg in the Central Highlands and 2,000 VND/kg in the Southeastern region compared to yesterday morning. This marks the second consecutive day of price declines in the domestic market. Currently, only Đắk Lắk and Đắk Nông provinces are maintaining the 160,000 VND/kg level. The pressure from early-harvest sales is putting strain on the market.
According to the Industrial and Trade Information Center (VITIC) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, although there is selling activity at the beginning of the harvest, transactions remain moderate and in small quantities.
This year, farmers are seeing better income levels, allowing them to cover expenses with only small sales. Many are still holding onto their pepper in anticipation of higher prices in the near future.
The average dry pepper yield nationwide is estimated at approximately 2.2 tons per hectare. At current prices, each hectare generates around 330 million VND in revenue, with profits exceeding 200 million VND per hectare.
In January 2025, Vietnam exported 12,958 tonnes of pepper, generating 87 million USD. Compared to the same period last year, export volume decreased by 25.9%, but export revenue increased by 25.1%. During the month, the average export price of pepper reached 6,755 USD/tonne, a 68% increase year-over-year.
Regarding yield conditions, initial reports show mixed results, with some areas experiencing slight increases while others report declines. In Đồng Nai province, for example, yields in several regions have dropped by 20-40% compared to the previous year.
At the close of the latest trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed prices as follows:
• Black pepper Lampung (Indonesia): 7,356 USD/ton
• Black pepper Brazil ASTA 570: 6,800 USD/ton
• Black pepper Kuching (Malaysia) ASTA: 9,500 USD/ton
• White pepper Muntok: 10,125 USD/ton
• White pepper Malaysia ASTA: 12,000 USD/ton
For Vietnam, black pepper is trading at 6,500 USD/tonne for the 500 g/l grade, 6,650 USD/tonne for the 550 g/l grade, and white pepper is priced at 9,550 USD/tonne.
