Soybean imports dropped sharply in January of 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to preliminary statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, soybean imports in January of 2025 reached 185,833 tonnes, worth of over 85.93 million USD, with an average price of 462.4 USD/tonne, down by 22.3% in both volume and value but up by 0.01% in price compared to December of 2024.

In comparison to January of 2024, there was also a decrease both in volume, in value and price with a corresponding decrease of 12.4%, 29.6% and 19.6%.
The US was the largest market supplying soybeans to Vietnam in January of 2025, accounting for 95.3% of the total volume and 94% of the total soybean import turnover of the country, reaching 177,087 tonnes, equivalent to nearly 80.8 million USD, the price was 456.3 USD/tonne, down by 13.1% in volume, down by 14.4% in turnover and down by 1.5% in price compared to December of 2024. In comparison to January of 2024, it increased 37% in volume, increased 9.9% in turnover but decreased 19.8% in price.
The second largest market was Canada in January of 2025 with 8,069 tonnes, equivalent to 4.62 million USD, the price was 572.8 USD/tonne, accounting for over 4.3% of the total volume and 5.4% of the total soybean import turnover of the country, up by 16.7% in volume, up by 23.7% in turnover and price increased by 6% compared to December of 2024.
In comparison to January of 2024, it decreased both in volume, turnover and price with corresponding prices of 30.5%, 36.7% and 8.9%. The next was the Cambodian market with 455 tonnes in January of 2025, equivalent to 336,000 USD, priced at 738.5 USD/tonne, accounting for 0.2% of the total volume and 0.4% of the total soybean import turnover of the country, down sharply by 77.3% in volume, down by 76.8% in turnover but the price increased by 2.2% compared to December of 2024. In comparison to January of 2024, it also decreased by 38.7% in volume, down by 38.2% in turnover but increased by 0.8% in price.
