 Wednesday, February 5,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to Kinh tế & Đô thị, on Wednesday, pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands increased compared to yesterday morning, reaching between 148,500 and 150,200 VND/kg

Early this morning, prices saw a slight increase in Đắk Nông. The post-Tết rise in domestic pepper prices has encouraged farmers as they begin the new harvest season.
Domestic Pepper Prices (Vietnam)
•           Đắk Lắk: 150,000 VND/kg
•           Đắk Nông: 150,200 VND/kg (+200 VND/kg)
•           Gia Lai: 149,000 VND/kg
•           Đồng Nai: 148,500 VND/kg
•           Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu: 149,000 VND/kg
•           Bình Phước: 149,000 VND/kg
The increase in Đắk Nông contrasts with stable prices in other regions compared to yesterday morning. The price surge right after Tết (Lunar New Year) is a positive sign, helping farmers enter the harvest season with optimism.
Harvest Progress & Market Trends
•           Farmers in Đắk Lắk, Đắk Nông, Gia Lai, and other key regions have started harvesting early-ripening pepper crops.
•           This year's harvest is delayed compared to previous years due to unfavorable weather conditions last season.
•           In previous years, Central Highlands farmers typically sold their coffee and pepper immediately after harvest, leading to oversupply and lower prices.
•           Some wealthier farmers stored their crops at local dealers, who then reallocated stock to larger trading partners. However, this created a "domino effect" during price surges when farmers rushed to sell their stored goods, causing liquidity issues for traders.
•           In recent years, especially in 2024, rising agricultural prices have helped farmers gain more control over their sales and avoid distress selling.
Global Pepper Prices (International Pepper Community - IPC)
•           Indonesia (Lampung Black Pepper): 7,219 USD/ton
•           Brazil (ASTA 570 Black Pepper): 6,300 USD/ton (+150 USD/ton, +2.38%)
•           Malaysia (Kuching Black Pepper ASTA): 9,000 USD/ton
•           Indonesia (Muntok White Pepper): 9,694 USD/ton
•           Malaysia (ASTA White Pepper): 11,600 USD/ton
Vietnamese Pepper Export Prices
•           Vietnam Black Pepper (500 g/l): 6,350 USD/ton
•           Vietnam Black Pepper (550 g/l): 6,650 USD/ton
•           Vietnam White Pepper: 9,550 USD/ton
Market Outlook
•           The International Pepper Community (IPC) has raised global black pepper prices, particularly for Brazilian pepper.
•           Since the start of the week, IPC has consistently increased prices across major producing countries, first in Indonesia, followed by Brazil.
•           The global supply-demand balance, weather conditions, and logistics issues continue to influence price movements.
Vietnam's domestic pepper prices are expected to remain firm as farmers navigate the new harvest season and global markets react to tightening supply conditions.T.Huong
